Rear Suspension Ideas
« on: September 19, 2004, 01:44:59 PM »
For the rear suspension, it's rather easy to raise the bump stop to protect the body at full compression. Take a look into my XL7's Suspension album, towards the bottom. Several months ago, I added the Jeep XJ/TJ coil spring spacers (2"). I've recently added a 2" lower spacer for the bounce stop to keep the new tires off the body during cycling (haven't tested to see if the 2" spacer is enough, they do have a 3" available). I've also let the parking brake cable loose from it's 2 last frame mounts.
During the bounce stop riser install, I took measurements. No spring/shock installed on passenger side, frame on stand, parking brake cable freed, driver's rear tire on ground, at full extension (brake line tight!!!) the shock length is ~24", spring ~17". (With parking brake mounted stock, the shock length full droop is 18", major difference!) With parking brake freed, at full compression, shock length is 17.5", spring ~8". With stock spring mounted back in, to lift the frame off the jack stand located near the lower rear link mount, the spring was compressed to 10".

Now to work out the front.
