Shifter boot idea
« on: August 03, 2005, 07:24:09 PM »
so i was talking to this Jeep fellow, and he mentioned that cause my shifter console and boot/inner boot were all craped during my body lift,, i could use an innertube section, cut a square the size of the inner shifter boot and then cut and X out of it to allow for shifting,, and thus block air coming directly into the rig..
then use a square of diamond plate of similiar material to completly cover the console were i crapped it and cut out the area necessary for shifting, then gather a general purpose aftermarket leather boot ...

sounds good to me,  any body else do anything similiar?

i was going to by a new console and boot to go back to stock appearance, but the gentleman that was going to sell me these parts never got back to me even after i was bascially waving the money around...    ;D

go to the wreckers, find a 99 or newer tracker rubber boot for the tcase, find a 2wd s-10 for the shifter boot.   Some are different, depending on year.    S-10s have a huge mounting area, I runa that boot with 4 inch body lift, and looks good too

so   ;D
That's a good idea, I guess any thin rubber material would work. I'll be doing this for my t-case shifter when I do my 3" body lift, Thanks!

Auto parts stores also carry a rubber shifter boot by Mr. Gasket ( I think it is actually for a hurst 4-spd), but it has the boot and a chrome mounting ring for like 10 bucks.  I used one of them in my car for a lower boot and worked perfectly...could probably flip it to point down and it would work well in the suzuki as well.
