Just curious what weights you tow with your XL7 dad wants to tow a trailer 3000 to 4000lbs.

I'd suggest trailer brakes for that much wieght.
Otherwise, He could get pushed around a bit.

I recently towed a 16' Scamp trailer to the Melt, some 650 miles away. It was hot, I had the camper little weighty (~2500#), 4 passengers and a dog. I suggest that he keep the trans out of OD. I got the tranny a little hot on the way there. It cooled off enough and didn't have a problem. On the way back, I got the tranny hot again and basically toasted the fluid. I did a fluid change 2 days later, but it was more of just empty the tranny pan. I'm getting ready to empty it once again as well as empty the torque converter.
If you can, add an extra tranny cooler in-line with the return line of the tranny. The little stock unit in the radiator is not enough. Keep the tranny out of OD and keep your speed down. I didn't have brakes on my trailer and it didn't really feel it. At gas fillups, check tranny and oil.

I tow my Samurai  ;D With a tow Dolly. The Samurai isn't road legal so it's the only way to get it to the trails. It's lifted with 33" boggers.  ;D  The XL-7 tuggs it along just fine.

I tow a sandrail and camping gear. Its seems to do a little better then my sidekick. I also pull a pop up trailer. But i agree with the od it seems to get the tranny hot when pushing it.

I pulled my Fathers 21' river boat, worked fine, although I think trailer brakes would have helped.  I have a picture but I forgot the link to the free uploading site.  (I know it is imageevent, but if I go to the main page they want me to pay money, some posted a link before that I could opoad directly on)  I think the boat and trailer weigh about 2800 lbs.

Have fun and good luck
