A solution to my slipyoke and lack-of-power problems
« on: August 14, 2005, 05:50:16 AM »
SM465 and NP205 out of an old Silverado:

4.3L TBI V6 out of an S10:

Oh no! My engine has been stolen!

No, wait. There it is. ;D

Surprisingly (to me), this combination should only be about 6-8 inches longer from the crank pully to the rear yoke than the stock Tracker mill. :)

I wondered about using the 4.3, but I was thinking about using a 4wd S-10 trans and transfer.

I could've used the S10 trans and tcase, but I already had a passenger side drop D44 when I got the motor.

Yeah, I think this has a really low first gear... in fact, it's a four speed, but it has L, 1, 2, and 3 marked on the shifter knob :)

That's true, I'll also have 2.5 times the power... so it all works out :)

Plus this winter's project is going to be rebuilding this motor and getting it hopped up ;D

Yeah, hopefully when it's all said and done it'll be a mud-slinging monster that won't break too many parts... main reason for going 4.3L over 350 :)

I think my weight distribution was off with the other motor... just to a lesser degree ;D

will the np205 and sm465 fit between the frame rails ok? I had your exact combo in a toyota and it was OK but the exhaust from manifolds around the motor mounts and clutch was a bitch!

The tranny is 6.5:1 or something I can't remember now. I had 4.37 gears in my toyota axles and it would crawl most anywhere. That was with 37" tires.

Good luck and I can't wait to see it finished!

The Tracker's frame rails are only around 2" narrower (maybe less) than the Silverado's, so it SHOULD fit in there. From what I see now, exhaust is scaring me (driver's side manifold exits about 3 inches in front of the clutch lever on the trans :-\)

Waitaminute..

So that tcase is passenger side output? Whoa.

I've been thinking about going 4.3 but wasn't sure about the drop. S10 drops on the driver's side.

The tranny bolted right up though? Think an automatic would too?

The 4.3 and the chevy small blocks all have the same bellhousing patterns.

Flywheels can get exciting pre 86, post 86 and 4.3 has some other fine points I can't remember right now.....just gotta make sure right flywheel for the intended combo.

4.3's are the same bellhousing pattern as a small block 305, 350. so its easy!

Explosivo what exhaust manifolds do you have? are they the factory tube ones? If you find an astro van they have tube manifolds that the outlet flanges can be cut and turned where ever you want. Also I would suggest going to a hydro clutch if you aren't already.

The '88-91 fullsize blazers had hydro clutches witht thedrivers side lever. I used a lakewood bellhousing from a camero as it had the hydro mount on it already (I had an alum. one but kept cracking it.) but I needed to have the trans hole enlarged to fit the sm465 bearing.

Also while you have the tcase out, do the mod to make it twin stick (requires removing one of the shift levers and some grinding.) gives you front WD only as well as 2WD low. very nice mod. and free.
