sorry I'm kind of a 'tard about this, but I'm sure somebody can help.  My question:

Since the 97 JX sidekick was available with A/C as an option, could I use factory parts to install it on a 97 JX that didn't come with it?  What would I need?

Compressor
Bracket
Pulley
Belt
Switch/harness

Aside from the dash button, is there any difference between A/C and non-A/C models?  Is the blower the same? 

I know most people rip these out, But I'd really like to have A/C for driving through AZ and CA.

What year did the freon type change over?  Every other vehicle I've owned has had A/C that didn't work, so I never learned how to fix it.

you would need compressor, reciever/dryer, condensor, new heater box, lines, electric fan?, and then wiring for switch, cooling fans, low pressure switch, etc. all a/c systems must use r134a refrigerant and needs to be charged by a shop with an a/c machine. if you can get all the parts out of a used vehicle that would be best because buying it all new would be pricey $$$$$. most a/c systems from that year were dealer installed so it shouldn't be too hard to remove all the components from a vehicle with it. good luck

I converted my 92 tempo to r134a with a conversion kit.  It was way to easy.  The old freon needs to be messed with by a with an a/c machine.  I learned an interesting thing from a ac tech once.  He said that in indurstial applications, they dont have to recycle the old stuff, it is not regulated.  But home and auto is regualted.  If they are so concerned about the precious ozone, dont you think it would be ALL regulated? And why is the media so quiet about the fact that the ozone hole is gone!  There were many scientists who said that the hole was part of a cycle.  But noooo, we have to make laws and change things because the sky is falling....
