motor swap

does anybody know if a 2001 sidekick/tracker engine will go into a 98 sidekick?  Will it bolt right up?  Do I need to swap computers?  I've got a great deal on one if it will go.
Thanks...hi-rise

It can be done, but there's more work involved than just bolting it in and wiring it up.  How good of a deal is it?

Hi there

Check on the forum, we just went through a big discussion on this one and all the info is in one place....easy swap but not a bolt in.

Its a 28k miles 16v for $250.00  comes with a complete wiring harness and any other accessories I may need.  The threads I checked had no mention of one year to another for swaps.  Both are 16v fuel injected 1.6's .  Any help here?
Thanks,

A 2001 Tracker with a 1.6/16v?

My manuals only show the 2.0L in 2001 as the 4 cylinder!

If it is a 1.6/16v the swap is a lot easier but I'm short of details on the wiring side as my manuals don't admit to it's existence!

As a 1.6/16v the engine, clutch, mounts etc all work, but I'd be very careful about wiring computer lower exhaust (probly has 2-o2 senors) and all the electronic goodies.

Has anyone here done the got more info?

I think you will need to swap the computers. We get a 1.6 version over here but they revised the valve timing, altered the intake and a few other minor mods to improve torque so the fuelling and ignition is bound to be different, I think it is probably coil on plug too. Its worth giving it a go at only $250.

2.0 is a tougher swap

Bolts to trans but....

You will need
- absolutely everything that attaches to the engine
- custom flywheel
- custom mounts
and a buch of other fabbing

Check the board
