« on: August 21, 2005, 11:41:55 PM »
Problem: I start the car, when i stomp the gas and let off the RPM's drop really low to where it sounds like its goin to die out. If i turn on the aircon and then turn it off the car will either die out or idle really low. When at a stop light in Drive the car sounds like its goin to die out. Can anyone help me out?

My Tracker had and still does(sometimes) have the same problem.
Took it to the dealer while still under warrenty and they said it was carbon build-up on the throttlebody. Mine did it more when it was winter but it does it sometimes still now.

I've been just wiping off the butterfly and throttle body every couple months or so and it's been pretty good. I also adjusted the throttle cable and tried to get rid of any slack in it.

                             Hope I helped, Mike

I was also told that it could be the IAC motor? Where is this located? I will try cleaing the throttle body out today, is there anything else it could be? Bad spark plugs?

What is an IAC Motor? I'm not a mechanic  ;)

I also changed my fuel filter just incase it was that.
Plugs could be possible but I don't think so cause there supposed to be 100k mile plugs.

The Idle Air Control valve is a doohickey on the intake manifold that helps control the air flow at idle.  It's operation depends on the temperature of the air and the engine among other things.  Where it is on one of these I can't tell you.  When they get gummed up they can get stuck in a position that isn't optimum for the engine's needs.  Sometimes you can clean them, sometimes you just need to get a new one.

Don't ever belive that BS about 100k plugs.  Ask a mechanic what the difference is between a plug you change every couple of years and a plug you change every 100k.  Most will have no good answer.  Remember the OEM's are in the business of selling you new cars.  If your "old" car wears out at 100k or sooner...all the better for them...  Put new plugs in every year if you use the vehicle hard and every other year if you don't work it too hard.  Plugs wear out...what the manufacturors think their "new" plugs have that means they won't wear out in 3-4 times longer than the old ones...I dunno...? ???
