Body mount rusted out what should I do?
« on: August 22, 2005, 05:13:15 PM »
Well here is my drivers side middle body mount.

As you can see it rusted from the inside out and now The whole thing is collapsing. I don't know what to do. The car is my daily driver so its hard for me to give it up. Is there any way to fix it without removing the whole body from the car. i'm actually thinking of finding a body in better shape. I think i have a line on one with a light hit in the rear quarter panel. Just looking for some help. Thanks Andrew

You should be able to loosen the other body mounts, jack up the body, cut out the rust and rebuild the mount area. Do you have access to thick sheet metal and a welder?

That's a tough spot because there
isn't any way to get to it from inside
the body.

Best way is to get rid of the rust, I use
Rust Convertor, turns rust into a Black
Oxide, and helps stop the cancer.

Then repair and keep an eye out for
a good body for when the inevitable happens

We replaced all of our recessed body mounts with these:

Because we had three that pulled out of the body and left gaping holes.

Cleaned up the body, welded them in place:

The replacements worked flawlessly also when the body lift was removed. Plus, now the mounts are stronger. (I'm glad they're there after seeing the current accident post!)

Maybe your welding contact could do something like that?

Wow, that looks just like my mounts. I actually just fixed the pass. side mount in front of that one (the one just behind the front tire) because it was rusted and collapsed, and made me nervous, since the body would jump up and down when I jumped on the frame (playing with the new suspension ;D)
