Supid question about 4 lo on track

On my old tracker it would gring going into 4lo.  I would stop throw it into N then throw the 4x4 shifter into 4 lo in one constant motion.  I always seemed to grind.  What am i doing wrong. ???

That's the way to do it, I found that even
in neutral the T-case gets spinning, the best
way to shift into 4-Lo is stop first, shift trans
to neutral, then in one move shift thru T-case
neutral into 4 -Lo, no grind if done right

That or learn how to shift with engine RPM
to syncronise the T-case  ;) , but I drove Semi
truck for 15 years, so I did that all the time

Get a 2wd tracker and you won't have that problem  ;D

Well, are you holding the clutch in when you do it?

Mine doesn't grind - well none of my Kicks grind - four 4-doors, and one 2-door.  Never had that problem.  The 2-door had both stock, and 4.24:1 lo range - no problems with either...

With his problem I was thinking he had
an Auto Trans, mainly because I have the
same problem, seems the auto doesn't
treat neutral the same as a Manual does

Yeah, I found that out with the wifes XL-7, you have to be in neutral or park before going into 4-low.  With my 5 speed Tracker it doesn't matter as long as the clutch is in.  And like was said by Wildgoodie earlier, learn to double clutch!!!!! ;D  Dave

Yeah, I go from 2hi to 4 lo and back several times when wheelin and no grinding issues as long as the clutch is in... In the group I run with, you don't follow each other too closely or you WILL get roosted by the zuk in front at the next mud hole! LOL!

Thanks, you guys are allright.  Just got this one and it is an automatic trans.  Have one big problem thought the one bracket on the rear that holds the control arm is bent and causing it to pull hard and the tire is bent in a little.  i am going to try to slam out the bracket and straighten it.  Thanks for the help. ;D
