First trail damage to my trackick :(
« on: August 22, 2005, 07:48:21 PM »
I went out to the local mud hole tonight, screwing around with some friends... and managed to knock both my left tires off their rims. I took a turn to hard with really slick mud, and my left tires nailed the side really hard. Both came off, and I managed to crawl out of the mud hole and onto dry ground. We changed the left front one but had to leave my tracker out there until I get the tires put back on the rims.

All in  all it was the best time I've ever had wheeling, i got my tracker airborne and landed in some mud, all 4 wheels off the ground. I also made it through a hole a 4x4 F150 on 33s got stuck in a few days ago, it killed my tracker because the water was so deep but I made it to dry ground, and it started right up again. I'm going to get the tires resealed tomorrow, and hopefully my tracker will be back in action by tomorrow. All this the day I got my new exhaust too :(.

Anyone got a quick estimate on how much its going to set me back to put two 195/75/R15s back on their rims?

Depends on how much your tire guy likes you ;D
Around hear as much as they'll charge is $23 for both of them.  And that is as expensive as I've found.  I've found if you shoot the breeze a little or go to someone you know it's usually free or much cheaper.  If they treat you right most vendors realize that you'll come back.

I don't actually need my trackick there right, just the tires/rims?

Ya, an old truckers trick is the starting
fluid and toss a match at it, kind of dangerous
tho, I wouldn't do it on a small tire like a car.

You'll need to clean them out prior. Most tireman don't like to mess with debri that they have to remove. Head to Walmart. They breakdown mine for free. I drop them off, pick them up later. If I don't want the tires, they take for $.70 each. Simple easy and trouble-free for me.
To get remounted and balanced, it'll cost ~$13 ea tire at Walmart.

I went to Tire Kingdom today after washing them off, the guy was curious how I did it, I told him the story he laughed and did it for free. Popped them on, my tracker is as good as new now.

You should be able to use a tire iron and a gas station pump to get them back on

My friend had jacked my tracker up on the body and not the frame, and I had to set the wheel down on a board to move it and I bent the back left rotor just a bit. Whats it do?

That's the drum brake backing plate,
it holds the shoes in place, depending
on if it's rubbing the drum and how far
up it got bent, makes a difference if you
need to remove the plate and straighten
or replace it

You should be able to straighten the backing plate. Although if it's not rubbing anything as it is, it might not even need that...
