Seeking comments on Sidekick purchase

Seeking comments on Sidekick purchase

I'm looking to purchase a 89 2DR Sidekick with 140K miles on original engine for $2500.  There's some tapping when the engine runs, so it may need a valve adjustment.  I have a few questions.

Does the price seem high?
How hard is it to adjust valves?
What will a rebuilt engine run?  Where do I get one?  I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What will it cost to have it installed?

Welcome to the board.........

Price.....................depends on condition, if it's real nice doesn't sound bad
Adjusting valves...is easy, check the board for some tips and buy a manual
Rebuilt engines....prices are all over the place depending on how good, why not rebuilt it
                            yourself or find a good used one if you need it?
Install..................again depends on where you get it done, call around your area to get
                            estimates, then again it's not brain surgery you can probly do it!

Unless it is in really nice condition the price sounds really high to me.  I've seen ones of that vintage sellig for under $1000.  Mine was $800 at a dealer with 95k but a rough body.

not hard ... in fact it's a "regular" maintenance item that is typically not done. A feeler guage set, some basic tools, doesn;t take long.

keep the engine it's got, tune it, and it should go another 100K. Got a compression test?

That price seems a bit high to me, too. I paid that for my 90 Tracker with 85K miles on it at a used car lot 4 years ago...

Thats too much.
I paid a little more than that for my 95 4dr JLX in february and it only had 98,000 miles on it. And I got it from a dealer.

dunno what 150 thousand miles translates to in km, but my cousin just picked up a 1990 sidekick 4x4, power steering etc. decent tires, 230 thosuand km on it but the engine was totally rebuilt by a shop here on the island,  she paid 2100 bucks canadian for it, good deal i think :D, next thign is to get her to lift it :D

That price is way to high!  I paid $3400 for a 98 4WD 2dr soft top in near new condition with 86000 miles.  It even had the high end alloy wheels, AC that works well, no rust.  no tears in the top either.   If you want to spend the money go newer.  If you are in San Fransisco area you will need the extra horsepower from a newer model for all those danged hills out there!

I priced mine through Black Book (the real blue book of the car industry) and I was right on the money when I bought it.

I have seen 94's around here for under $1000.

     A nice clean sidekick 2 dr rag in Alberta right now is going for 3000.00+ Canadian

Trackicks are expensive down here in florida, and samurais are nonexistant practically, and very pricey when they can be found.
