Question on OME struts

Question on OME struts

I have the opportunity to pick up a set of OME struts for a good price. I'm running 1-1/2" coil spacers with a strut mount flip up front in my 93(the one that would get the struts).  I know that the OME struts are longer than stock, but how much longer are they? Will I be able to install them with the strut mount flipped still or will I have to reverse it back to normal for the new struts?

I'm thinking that someone posted a pic and some measurements of the stock vs. OME struts to this forum a long while back. Try the search and see what comes up.

They're about 1 1/2" longer than stock. With the strut top flip it will be a bit close on the CVs it would be wisest to put the strut top back to stock configuration.

I believe the mesurements ans pics were made by Nomaad in an excellent file he did. I can't remember the link, but you should find it in the Xl-7 section. I imagine that, although they are different cars, you'll get the idea ;).
I'd say that unless you drop your diff (assuming you haven't) you'll have CV problems with both the strut and the mount flip. I'd reverse the setup to normal if you plan to install the OME strus, or drop your diff.

My sister heather has this setup and has had good luck with it. However Rhinoman is exactly right, it puts the CVs to a max angle at the inner joint. Open diff this might hold up but with a locker you may want to flip the mount back to stock.

I got this from the OME page, check here http://www.drivetrain.com/EMU/emusuzuki/emusuzuki.html#GRAND%20VITARA%204%20&%206%20CYLINDER%20MODE, it says front struts have 40mm more travel than stock struts.  That is just over 1.5 inches.

I have the OME struts on a Calmini 3"inch lift and no strut spacers.
But If I get the time, I'd atlest do the strut mount flip.

I have the Calmini 3" with OME struts and the strut spacers  ;D and it rides fine.

Great!  I've been thinking that the OME struts with a flipped upper strut mount would give me very close to the same down travel as the calmini struts with the spacer.  Can anybody confirm this?  I don't want to worry about stressing the CV jointsl.

The Calmini spacers are 2" so the OME set up (1 1/2" ) with flipped top mount (3/4") would give about 1/4" more down travel. The angle shouldn't be an issue with the Calmini lift. I used 2" spacers with a 2" lift and no diff drop for around 20K no problems. However as the Calmini arms are wider you will have to ensure that you do not run out of CV travel.
