Flexin the Golf Cart
« on: September 07, 2005, 05:14:18 PM »
I decided it was time to flex test the "golf cart" again ...

current suspension specs
Front: 1.75" spring spacers, stock coils, 2" strut spacers (without the flip), stock struts
Rear: 1.75" spring spacers, 4dr coils, 2" diff spacer, xtra long shocks w/ limit straps.

Tires are 31x10.50 on 15x8 (3.75 BS)

so now to the pics ...

In this, yes, I'm pikin a tire, but just barely, and the balance feels "right"

Here's the front up ...

One thing you can REALLY tell is why IFS sux for a static test like this ... there is no "forced compression".

I think the stiffer 4dr coils in the rear are actually helping a bit in the flex just cause they cause the front to take some more weight. This is what I mean by "balance". When I had the front up, I was basically balanced on 2 wheels. The body roll still has pucker factor, but not nearly as bad if that rear wheel collapses more !!!

(I'll try to make real pic -in-post when I figure why this BB doesn't like mine )

I hope Mike pops in and talks about the lack of flex. I rode in the Rockstar at Zukimelt and it was one of the most capable zuks Ive been in and it doesnt flex that well on the RTI ramp.

Talking about the body roll, Mike had the front tire up on a big rock and pulled up on it enough that the back wheel was way off the ground.  I could almost touch the dirt and hes up there wiggling his body back and forth trying to see how much he could get away with!!!

I started thinking about the warnings/comments from his friends "Dude your either real stupid or really brave to ride with Mike"  ;D :o :o

My wife was "can I open my eyes now" on her first trip in the golf cart ... I guess balancing on 2 tires was a little much for her  ;D

Of course now that she's had a few more wheelin trips (including one at midnight), she's almost jaded. Just today, we took it down a hill to check on some apple trees, and coming up the loose steep hill she said "I could handle this" ... by next summer, she's runnin the golf cart. (which means I gotta get the 4dr ready for ME).

Don't take it personally about the color, I had one of the baby blue ones and people had worse thing to say than " it's pink".

I know a guy who was going to buy an S-10 in that color he liked to call it "rasberry" LOL

 Steve :)
