Went to the U pull it to pick up an axle. 

1996 4-dr had the part I needed but the axle is flanged with the lug pattern on the axle (Not Drum).

My 1994 axle has the small 4 bolts that bolt the drum to the axle and then the wheel to the drum.

Anyone have any more info as to the difference... I'm wishing the newer ones were bigger / stronger.  The shaft size & bearing may be bigger (Looked that way) but they both are necked down to the 26 splineside gear, So I'd assume they are of similar stregnth.

I'll try to gt comparative pics tomorrow, Had to get to work today.   Ran out of time.  

I had both in my Kick before going to my Ford 9". Neither realy seemed much strongrer than the other just a bit different design. I heard that the "stronger' rear shafts Calmini is selliing is based on the older style axle. If this is based on cost or a stronger basic design, I do not know.

The difference is just the shafts I think,
the earlier shafts are easier to carry, no
big flange with studs hanging out

Hmmm haven't thought of that.   Late model probally will not hide behind the tail light.


  I may also loose the welded rear and go with a locker.  I figure it might help with on road drivability and mildly reduce stress.  

I'm sure running stock axles (Locked & 4:1) I'm on borrowed time, But I'm not ready to make the Upgrade jump yet.
