Have you ever taken a door off in your house by pulling the pins out of the hinges?

Anyway, no I don't have any pictures at this time.  But just open up your doors, and look at the hinges.  Down through the center you will see a steel rod going from the top to the bottom of the hinge.

The top hinge, the pin is installed from the bottom.  If you look you will see it's pointed at the top and a "E" clip holding it in place.

Remove the clip and drive the pin down and out.

Same for the bottom but you have to drive the pin up.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I was thinking you took out the bolts of either the door or the door jam, then used something for a pin. See I was confused. The pin assembly was in my face and I didn't even see it.
As for your idea, I know of a Sami which drilled out the top pin in his (rather than cutting the mount up). He then placed a snap pin in. His excuse, the door will stay with the vehicle in an accident. He replied, how would you find out if the accident was enough to knock a door off?

I'm amazed at how many states don't have vehicle inspection. In new hampshire they check the brakes and tires and steering and so on.....makes me feel more comfortable knowing that cars that are inspected aren't piles that are going to ram into me.

The only time you have to get a Vehicle inspection in BC is if a cop pulls you over and hands you a VI ticket.

He can pull you over for a few reasons.

- The cop is just being a prick

- Your car looks like it should be in a scrap yard.

- Your driving a 4x4.  >:(

- Your driving a low rider

- Your driving a Ricer

- Your car is spewing out black smoke....

If you get handed a VI ticket you have 30 days to get the inspection done, or your vehicle isn’t allowed on the road anymore until it is fulfilled.

I disagree.

We had inspection laws in Indiana that we such a joke, it was little more than a large waste of money and time.
An old coot used to sell stickers and not even look at the vehicle they were going on.

I've always been of the persuasion that the driver should take care of their own rigs rather than let the "state" do it for them.

What is even more stupid here in PA is that totally brand new vehicles have to be "inspected" before you can drive them off the lot. I know, I bought three since I lived here.
That is borderline asinine.

The only problems with taking the doors off in Tx is that when you take the doors off, the mirrors are on the doors and the mirrors come off as well. Tx law says that you have to have a mirror on the drivers side , and one on the passenger side, if the vehicle came with one on the passenger side.
I always take my doors off my samurai, passed by a few cops, havent gotten stopped yet.

Michigan has a side mirror law too.  Haven't had a problem yet.

It's the same with a lot of Jeep.  You take the doors off and you have no mirrors.

I removed my driver side door last night.  I did it by unbolting the hinge from the door, not the body.  It was really easy to get them off, took about 5 minutes.  Getting them back on was another story.  I wanted to take out the pins like I have read others here doing.  The top pin was no problem.  The bottom one was stuck good.  I unbolted the hinge from the body and put it in a vise and banged on the pin, but it wouldn't budge.  When the hinge turns the pin turns so it it stuck good.  Since the top pin came out easily I tried to put the door back on by lining up the hinge and inserting the pin.  I couldn't get it lined up properly and ended up putting the top part back on the body and bolting the door back on.  That was a minor pain.  Took about a half hour to get all four bolts in.  Since my infant son rides in the front passenger seat I don't think I'll take that door off.  It wouldn't look right with just one door so I don't think I'll go doorless much this year.

Yeah, those kick doors are heavy.  I've helped RealRedWagon get his back on a number of times.  It's easier with two people.  Oh and by the way, kicks look sweet with no doors.  I've run the Sammi doorless and he's run the kick doorless for a while here in NY and haven't been bothered by "the Man." then again, my mirrors are mounted off the doors, so I got 'em when the doors are off, and real red doesn't have any mirrors left anyhow :o
