Newbie w/ 02 XL-7 ?
« on: September 17, 2005, 06:29:35 PM »
Hello,

I'm seriously considering buying a 2002 XL-7 V6 4x4 auto and would appreciate any feedback on reliability. I have a motorcycle (dirt bike) built by Suzuki and I am very happy with it. I would like to do a little off-roading with the XL-7. My current rig is a Nissan Frontier and we just bought the wife a Jeep Liberty CRD (diesel).

The XL-7 I'm looking at has 20K miles. I've done a Carfax and all is clean. It seems like a good deal at $11,900.

Thanks! - Bill

I have an 02 and have had no realy problems. The only thing I would look into is the 7/100,000 war. from Suzuki. they stated it in 02 but I don't know when in 02.  Also is this from a dealer because the price might be a little high (depends on where you live) You could also check out e-bay as of right now there are 7 xl-7's on there.
Good luck and if you want to know anything else just ask.
George

Your gonna NEEED larger tires to off-road with an XL7. The stock 235/60's are way too small. But 225/70's fit perfectly and add a touch over an inch in clearance.

Front articulation sucks, but as with most IFS rigs it's on par.

Reliability... PAH! You own a Jeep, it's nothing like that. Your original tranny will still be in the truck after 150k miles, and you won't be replacing DI's every 3 years or Master Cyl's every 4. I have a Jeep too, had several, before that had Suzuki's... The Suzuki's are far more reliable than most, and I'll include Toyota in there as well (have owned several toyota's and currently own 1 Lexus). The Frontier is a decent truck as a truck and depending on your setup would be better to take off-road than an XL7. But an XL7 has major potential. Downside is the lo-range being 1.82:1 but with an automatic and 5.12's in the diffs it's not too bad.
