Need More Lift????
« on: September 24, 2005, 09:06:39 PM »
Have an 87 Sami with a 5" SPOA and Aftermarket shackles the give another half an inch or so of lift but I need another inch or two to get rid of the tire rub in the wheel wells with the 31x12.50's. I don't want a body lift. To get another 2" of lift what would be my best options to maintain a good ride and the handling??? Cost??

What are the thoughts on a Shackle Reverse kit for another 2" of lift.

You're running 5-1/2" of lift and have rubbing with 31's? :o

Where are you rubbing at? Perhaps a little trimming would cure it...

A friend of mine is running 31-9.50x15 Swampers on 15x8" rims with 3-3/4" of backspacing on his 93 sammy with only a 2" body lift and some fender trimming(more like rust repair than intentional trimming). He doesn't rub at all and isn't running the swaybar, either...
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

I am running 31x12.50's. No rubbing in the rear but on the front wheel wells I get quite a bit when turning and articulating. It's enough to start cuttin' into the tire tread. Did a little massaging with the old 5lb sledge hammer but I am still getting more than I like. I'd start cutting if it was rusty but its not, so I am not quite prepared to start that.

I would look at moving the axle forwards to get the clearance, maybe using rear springs up front (RUF), that will give you a better ride too.

Hmm where are you rubbing at I'm running 32's with about the same amount of lift only place I rub at full stuff is the back of the front wheel wells I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go with RUF to fix it.
how about some pics to get a better idea.
you could also get some lift springs from Trail Tough.

bump stops smumt stops.
we don't need no stinking bump stops.
just kidding that is another way to cure the problem.

I'm going to move the axle forward only because it gains me more wheel base and articulation.
