Snorkel Check
« on: March 22, 2005, 06:04:04 AM »
Hey, I gotta reroute the snorkel on the LawDog now that the 16v is in.  The previous design wound under the dash and ended internally.  Real_Red_Sammi and I kinda threw it together one day before wheeling.  I don't really wanna use the same set up, cuz honestly, it was a pretty dumb one(and the 16v intake is on the other side).  Some pics of everyone's Sammi snorkel setups would be helpful in giving me an idea which way I'm gonna go.  Thanks all.

What was wrong with an internal intake?

i think he was trying to say that it wouldn't work on the 16V b/c of the intake.  the snorkle on my tracker is internal but it too close to the floor and still sucks up a little water when its starts flooding inside.  i still have to move it.

I had it up in the dash.  I don't think it went high enough for maximum submersion.  My dillemma is I just don't know the cleanest way to do it.  If I come out the fender, i'm cutting alot and I might catch it on trees.  If I come out the hood I have to make it seal w/the hood closed.  I really don't want to come out the cowl because my computer for the 16v is up under there and Sammis like to rot there.  I just wanted pics and tips of other guys setups to see what the simplest/best sealed setup would be.

get some vacuume cleaner type flexable hose and connect it to your under the dash intake and run it up to the top of your windshield frame with some velcroe when you go in the deep stuff, take it off when not.

My view on an internal snorkels. all well and good in the winter as you dont suffer with cold air and freezing of the carb if one is fitted.

Have you seen a  car back fire or miss fire and it comes up the air intake , that might give you a shock, and when my engine died the snorkel smoked for 25 minutes after the engine stopped.

Lastly if you take part in any motor sports here in the UK the rules state that they must be external...

just a view :-)

my 16v snorkel comes up inside on the driverside it's really loud right there next to your head(my air cleaner is inside as well kept drowning the airbox too) the Real red Sammi is on the pass side 8v not so bad overthere I don't think the 8v takes in as much air like the 16v...

Hey wait a minute why am I responding to the lawdogs post on snorkels his trucks in MY Shop and I'll probably be the ONE putting it together anyways :P

I thought we just agreed today that I was doing my own snorkel while you Red Bros. prepped for Zuwharrie.
