The sammy I'm looking to buy is currently just primered, and I'm curious how much it will set me back to paint it. Just black, nothing fancy but also nothing that sucks. Anyone have experience painting or getting one painted before?

won't cost ya much if you use rattle cans...lol
just prep the primer really well, then pick your spray color of choice.  You would be amazed how good you can make a rattle can paint job look!!

Well this is going to be my DD and only car, so I'd prefer it look pretty nice. Think spray paint would be that good? Also, can you clearcoat rattle can jobs?

don't do it man.. just put the rattle can down>>. and nobody is gonna get hurt.....   if you want a fairly cheap job and still want it to look decent.. and don't have auto body skills ,such as one self.... try maaco if you want a  cheap job.. i think there pretty big in the states.. not sure i'm a canuk..lol   just trust me  on the  rattle can job.....DON'T DO IT... you'll regret it later...lol     

Maaco, is the only way to go for the money. Keep your eyes and ears open, they advertise on TV and radio alot, and offer 1/2 off prices a few times a year.  Thanks George.

just remember  you  get what u pay for also...

 A MAACO paint job is almost as good as normal shop if you do the prep yourself, I worked there for 2 weeks (1 week work, 1 week notice) didn't agree with the their standards ( slightly lower than I'm use to)

 The prep is why  they offer cheaper paint jobs ( they don't spend much or very little time  prepping)
And their so big that their paint is it's own line (says flare or phonix on the can) it's supplied by a major paint manufacturer but cheaper line so they don't put their own name on the can(just like the 11 herbs & spices, can't tell you the manufacturer )

 Anyways just prep it yourself and be specific about the masking to avoid ugly overspray areas that they usually miss ( door jams etc..) And don't pay extra for clear coat and the UV stuff unless your going to watch them do it (huge up sell)

I had my Nissan NX2000 painted at Earl Scheib 5 years ago for about $300.  It has held up suprisingly well and looks pretty decent.  I also had my old Camaro painted at Maaco several years ago for aboug $700.  The Maaco paint job was a bit better than the Earl job.

If it's primmed and ready to go, probably <$400 materials included. (Base, Clear, Thinners, etc)
If you go Acrylic it will be less.
Check around a couple high schools in your area, and see if they're auto body shop will do it, it might take longer, but it's cheap, and your helping our youth develop skill.
