sammy t-case in kick, driveability
« on: October 06, 2005, 02:14:22 AM »
Hey everyone,

How would a sammy t-case in a kick drive in high? Reduction would be about 40% and I have 33"s on mine. So that'd mean it's 20% lower geared. Anyone have indications about how much I'll be losing/winning in driveability.
With auto gearing in the axle's it'd be spot on but I don't have the money for that  :'(

How are you going to go about putting a sammy case in a kick? Are you going to do a Kicker 3 or are you going to try to put a 2wd transmission in the Kick and a sammy case behind it?

Don't forget that the Sammy case is SYE - this means you'll have to modify/make custom drivelines for your setup. :)

I'm in Europe, so it'll be a home-made kicker 3 gonna try to make it shorter though, mating the kick case and the sammy case. I hope I might get away with adapting the sammy drive shafts....
plan's might change into looking for a 2wd trans (very hard to find over here) and putting the sammy case behind that. Just getting as much idea's as possible. And 5.83s are no option because they're really really expensive over here (like 500 euro's and more per axle  :o)

If you're going to mate it to the Kick t-case have a look around for someone who is putting the old style (leaf sprung) t-case into a coil sprung model or even a Jimny one as their reduction in high is only about 20% so should be about spot on for your tyre size. Also they are a little shorter which will help your driveline angles particularly in a swb. They should be pretty cheap too. If you are going to replace the Kick t-case with this then you won't have the same crawler gear options.

I've been considering doing the same.

I thought about putting a 2wd case in, and the sami tcase behind it.  This way i'd have plenty of room.  I need to find the gear ratios in high and low of a stock sidekick case, then compare that to a 4.1 to 1 or 6.1 to 1 sami box and see.  I'd be looking for about 15 to 20% reduction in high range i'd assume to run 33's to 35's (swapping out axles of course).

you and me both ... my 4dr is getting a SAS, I figure a kicker3 is alsoa going to be in that picture ...

(and not an inexpensive picture either)

will your driveshaft be angled?? I know sammis have an offset rear and kick are centered. So if run a Sami t-case with a centered rear will it be angled?

Yes it will.

I have the sammi case in mine right now, behind a 2wd tranny. Rear shaft is out of the front of a 84 yota pickup. It drives great around town, plenty of picup. Has some vibs from the driveline angle, but it is tolerable for a non-DD. Highway is OUT of the question for me, but I Am only on 31's. I havn't had a chance to take the trackick out and test speeds with my GPS yet, but I guesstimae I can do about 60 tops, and that's with the speedo reading something around 80.

It's ghetto right now. I used a stock sammy t-case arm, and just a whatever mount off the drivers side frame

Having a fab buddy make up a beefy ass skidplate/crossmember/t-case mount next summer. That stock crossmember was cut off, and is currently used for an exhaust hanger!

I'll see if I can't get a couple pics here in the next day or so. I have an extra t-case arm I'd send ya, but I think shipping would be a bit much!!
