How big of a spare
« on: October 06, 2005, 09:58:53 AM »
How big of a spare can you get on the back of a trakick with the bumper still there. Also how did you reinforce the tailgate to keep from ripping it off. I obviously need to find a bigger spare.

   Thanks,
   Kevin

I have a 235/75/15 on the stock rim as my spare right now.  its about 29 inches, and it just barely rubs the bumper with the tailgate closed.

I think I remember seeing somewhere an adapter that would move the spare out and up a little so you could use the bumper and a bigger spare at the same time.

With a bit of 1"x1" box section it easy enough to lift your tire mount up to easily clear a 32".

I done this originally to clear my 30"s and in the pic you can see theres 3" clearance between them. you have to Cut the tire mount to allow the rear wiper to clear but it easy as.

I don't have a problem now as the rear bumper got caught on a tree and the tree won that argument but now with the 32"s the back door taking a hiding with the weight. Probably going to throw the spear in the back from now on, then make a swing away holder when I get around to replacing the rear bumper.
