I've seen about 3 of the commercial variant over the last 4 or 5 years. They were introduced in around 2001 IIRC, about the same time or just after the 4u models. The GV models had been out a while by then and it was rated as being pretty slow and not actually all that economical compared to the comparable sized vans, also it suffered from the usual terrible Spanish build quality. It was a very poor seller and was quietly dropped a couple of years ago. It was a shame that they didn't launch it 10 years before hand.

That is quite true from Spanish built Suzukis at the Santana factory. But not necessarily true about other manufacturers producing i Spain ;).

How much would a new one have cost? Aren't commercial vehicles a lot cheaper than normal ones?

Too bad there isn't photos of the engine compartment!

By the way, can I get a translation for the following piece of that ebay ad: "My dad is a deisel fitter so it has regularly had filters changed and an eye watched over it. Fuel consumption is as you would expect for this engine. "

What is a "diesel fitter" There is an old joke told around here with that as the punch line so now I'm really curious!

So is it a homogenization of Pipe Fitter and Deisel Mechanic?

Here's the joke although I don't think it'll play well without the accent. So the characters are in a Swedish type accent...

Ole and Sven decided to emigrate to the U.S. The immigration officer asked Ole what his job skills were, to determine if he would be a useful U.S.citizen. Ole said he was a diesel fitter. The officer said this was great; Ole would be a great asset to the U.S. and approved his immigration papers.

Then the officer asked Sven what his job skills were. Sven replied that he was a specialist at sewing the cotton crotches in ladies' underpanties. The officer said that in the U.S. we have machines to do that, and he denied Sven's immigration.

Well, Sven was quite mad, and after he and Ole talked it over between them, Sven went back to the immigration officer and said, "Hey, Mister Officer, I don't get it. I vorked next to Ole every day at da same factory. So vhy he gets in the U. S. and I don't?"

When the officer said it was because the U.S. could always use a good diesel fitter,

Sven replied, "Yaawh, but at da factory I sewed da crotches in da panties, den I handed dem to Ole. He put dem on his head and said "Yaawh, diesel fit her"

That is quite true from Spanish built Suzukis at the Santana factory. But not necessarily true about other manufacturers producing i Spain ;).

Maybe not but I have heard similar comments about other vehicles built there.  As for Santana, well I bought my Vit new and by the time I got it home 3 bits of trim had fallen off! After about 2 months the main water pipe on the back of the water pump fell off. Luckily I was only driving around town, if it had happened on the motorway it would have seized. The metal work under the dash is bare metal and worst of all most of the bits are from a pre 1994 model including the 8V engine! There has never been an FSM or any service info published and the wiring loom appears to be made from random wire colours (could be right there is no wiring diagram either!).
On the plus side it was much much cheaper than a Jap built one, the spares cost a third of the Jap spares and apart from the aforementioned bits dropping off it has been very reliable.
I have an article somewhere about the diesel van variant, probably in the loft, it was in a couple of the offroad mags.

I'm not saying Santana has good quality standards. I will agree that any Spanish built Suzuki has loads and loads of problems, unacceptable in a new car. I think that Santana doesn't have any type of quality control (I'll check this out).
What I mean is that other car makers with factories in Spain (SEAT, Renault, Nissan, etc...) have proper quality standards.
Roeman, if you end up buying this car, I hope it is trouble free ;).

Its the old body style but its an 01 too. Id love to have that. It went really cheap too. I bet shipping would be a bitch though. :-\ I wonder how hard it would be to find one of these... and parts might be hard to find too huh.
