Kick to sammie tranny
« on: October 22, 2005, 09:16:30 PM »
Here is a thought ( I might have thought it b-4)
I'm still pondering a Yota axle swap on the 4dr.
The thing is, Can or has it been done swapping in a Sammie tranny into a Kick to
use the Sammies T-case?
I figure since you can get an adaptor to mate the 16valve into a  Sammie,
why not the other way?
It could be a cheaper option than Kicker3.
just tossing this Idea around with a shop that might do it.

But if you do that, you are going to have a offset rear output. Not conducive under a kick with toy axles. A better option would be to mate the kick t-case to a toy tcase and have it all centered. I think OTT offers something like this, called the kicker whatever.

I cant fine any pics,   but its doable.

if you get an X90 gearbox then you dont have to worry about making upa plate to cover up where the t case went,  so i hear,

The offset rear output is not THAT bad. in a LWB, it'll be even less noticed. I have the 2wd tranny divorced to a sammi case, and the angle is FUNKY all around. my DS goes from the pass side to the middle of the kick, but it goes UP from the sammi case output to the rear axle! It doesn't really have any drivability issues. My top speed is dictated by gearing, not vibrations. I think top speed is about 60, which shows closer to 80 on the speedo!

i put a sammy t case behind my kick t case and yes the rear output is slightly off center, but that was my fault as you can rotate the sammy case to get it lined up better.
its only out by an inch though and i have no vibration probs upto 70mph.
mines a lwb with toy axles as well.

well, this is for the my 4dr, so wheel base wont be too much of an issue ;D
The 2wheel drive Kick trannie I haven't seen yet so I can't judge it.
I'm perty sure that the drivelilne angle won't be an issue
an angle is an angle, is an angle.
up/down
left/right
potato
patotoe

My only thought about the Sammie trannie is it would have a smaller clutch.
But is it geared differant than the kicks?

It just seems like an easier/cheaper option.

If you are driving this to the trail, this is going to effect you highway rpm's. A sammy t-case will reduce your 2 hi gear ratio. Yup an angle is a angle, but if you are going to wheel and articulate, those angles get extreme. On the other hand a sky or Trail tough offset rear axle is the ticket for you. It allows you to have a normal driveshaft and angles with a sammy t-case. Doing all this, you mind as well make a dual t-case setup. Maybe a 2wd kick tranny, rock block then sammy t-case would help.
