You are probably right about your leak. I have the same thing going on with mine, just been to lazy to deal with it. :P. They aren't hard to replace and are really quite simple. You will have to pull the timing cover, water pump (now is a good time to replace it if its due), timing belt (Replace this) and your front pulley. When you replace the seal check to makes sure that there isn't a groove on the front of the crank. If there is get a replacement sleeve from a bearing company. The Haynes manual outlines the seal replacement.

the front of our engines is about identical.

I just replace my front oil seal two weeks ago and must have gotten a defective seal or done it wrong. I'm almost leaking worse now than before.

I took pics along the way and yes I did lube up the crank shaft surface.

there was no seams or imperfections on the front of the crank shaft mating surface

the new seal is mounted perfectly flush. I used a flat pine wood block to tap it in with a small hammer

I double checked myself on every step. and took pics along the way.

I have heard of people having to do this job three times before getting it right.

if there are other problems with the oil pump, will that cause a leak?

it appears pretty obvious to me that I will have to replace my brand new seal

any comments or advice greatly appreciated.

Might it be your oil pump gasket?

Mine is doing pretty much the same thing but it has a 1.6 transplant in the near future so I am not too worried about the leak now. ;D

OH, and by the way.................

NEVER trust a chiltons manual. Get the FSM Bible. Cost's a pretty penny but is well worth the cost. Probably one of the best buys I have paid for on the Zuki. The chiltons rags are shade tree at best.
