1.8, 16V, 5 spd.  33 mpg on highway.  I think it is a 15 gal tank.  That makes about 500 miles on a tank.

OUCH! My old K5 got better than that. My Sami gets about 20 mpg (bleeding oil all the way).

Oh well, if its still bleeding, its still alive.  :P

If my math abilities haven't completely failed me, $10.00 at $2.30/gallon makes about 4.3 gallons.  64 miles each way to work is 128 miles on that 4.3 gallons.  I figure that at almost 30 mpg.  Not bad in my book.  Did I miss something?

hmm, maybe its just the small tank? seems like it uses more gas? plus the check engine light and a ride a 55-85mph on the way into work dosent save gas either...

Thanx, I'll remember that.  I usually don't trust the fuel guage and try to fill up when it says about 1/4 tank.  Don't want to have to send the wife walking for gas if we run out.

I'm consistently getting 23mpg per tank for at least 10 tanks of gas now.  I fill up when it reads about 230-240 miles, and the needle is on the red, or close to it.  This is a 16V 4-door.

what's really funny is when i do go offroad for a day, then drive home and drive to work for the week, that time i spent driving offroad, with that same tank of gas, you'd think i'd be burning a lot of fuel for the small amount of miles, but it seems the other way around.  If i drive OR for 4-5 hours, then drive the same tank for the rest of the week, i get closer to 250-260 miles.

I also calculate each time i do the MPG figures that my odometer is 12% off, so i take the 230 miles times 1.12 and that gives me actual miles i've driven, then divide by gallons used (which is usually 11 gallons).

You guys are remembering to add the differences in the odometer to actual numbers, right?
