Removing t-case from Tracker
« on: March 13, 2005, 02:41:32 PM »
Hey all, I'm going to be pulling the t-case from my tracker and I was wondering if I can pull it easily without pulling out the transmission?  I  have the Dealer Manual and it says to pull everything, but I would prefer not to.  Thanks for the info.

Unless you can access the bottom of your shifter assemply on top of your tranmission and have already removed the bolt, I'd say no.  You'll need to remove both together.

removing the tcase w/tranny is easy, its not as heavy as you might think.  getting it  back on is a lil harder, it will be alot easyer to do your work with it off.

Thanks for the info.  I appreciate it.  Do you use a trans. jack or can it be easily done with a regular jack.  I know on my early bronco, it was very heavy(T-18) and almost impossible without a trans. jack.  Thanks for all the help.

Without a bodylift its not as easy but it is nice and light ;D
There is a bolt right under the Tranny shifter. you have to remove the Tranny shifter to access it. Thats where a body lift comes in handie ;D

i have done it with and w/out a trans jack.  with the jack is much easyer!  its not heavy but it has no flat spots on the bottom either.  got a cheepy one for $45 at harbor freight since i dont use it everyday, worked fine.  spend $4 on an alignment tool and two 8" bolts that are the same as the top 2 that go into the engine, to be used for alignment at install.  be patient and good luck. ;)

Thanks for all the input.  I ordered the t-case today with the gears, so hopefully I can put it in within the next couple weeks.  Can't wait to wheel with the lower gears ;D

The nice part about the T-case gears is you can actually up shift going up hills ;D
I can take hills in 3rd gear ;D

Just a FYI:  Most people do not put that top bolt back in - EVER.  That way, you can drop the tcase by itself in the future.
