The deepest I had mine in was about five feet, the water was half way up my windshield, thank god I was not in there long just crossing a short deep spot in a river, it never missed a beat, that was my 88 sammie with 16 valve no snorkle just a stock air box, I would of liked to of had an outerware on the k&n because they will not let water pass through them.

YOU CANT DROWN THEM!  When I did this I had water wash over the hood like crazy upon entering and was sitting in water the whole way through.  NOT a single problem.  After me, a jeep with a spring over and 33's sucked in water cause he had the stock mud sucking intake in place.  check out the puddle in the seat on the second pic! ;D

Yep, they can go through some water. I had my tracker with water over its hood and it crawled out of the mud hole only to die out of it... it was completely stock though. Also I've had my samurai in some pretty deep stuff.

Make sure your diffs and tranny doesn't have water in them now.
And yes they can go deep. If you plan on doing it alot it is a good idea to extend the breathers
ont he trans and the diffs.

Be careful guys, the air intake is not designed to get in to deep water.

This is the 8v air intake

and this is a 16v which is marginally better.

A well sealed snorkel is cheap insurance really.

Not if you want to play it safe, the Sammy intake is about where the badge is on your guard.
Normally you can take a reasonable deep dunking if it's really quick in and out sort of thing because the water has to fill up the inner guard before it gets to the air intake but your still risking it even then.

A good rule to follow would be the "top of the tyre rule" if you don't have a snorkel. Even then with the standard air intake ducting on a Sammy I wouldn't trust a snorkel ether . On the 413 that I made a steel Snorkel for I threw all the Suzuki intake away, including the hot air switch and replace it with exhaust tubing then sealed the air box lid with 6mm silicone O'ring and bunged up the drain hole in it, it can go all day with windscreen deep crossing and gets no water in it what so ever.
