93 Geo Tracker stock tires for the winter.  I changed the fuel filter after damaging my old one.  Now I notice a big increase in consumption of fuel.  I cannot detect any fuel leaks.  It still runs great.

Any suggestion of a checklist for troubleshooting this problem?  

BTW anyone know the fuel tank capacity on a trackick?

2-door 11.1 gallons
4-door 14.5 gallons

Hmm, no leaks...are your plugs showing any signs of fouling?

Usually the use of fuel is directly proportional to the pressure applied to the tall skinny pedal on the right.

That happend to a friend of mine, he got some dirt in his injectors and his fuel regulator, have fun trying to clean them out.

might not be related to replacing your filter but two things that cause increased consumption -coolant temp sensor and oxygen sensor - o2 sensor should be replaced every 50 - 80 thousand miles. check spark plugs for tightness also - my #4 plug came loose by itself and gas milage went out the door. with my 31's my truck gets about 27 - 30 mpg.

My fuel econemy went to sh*t after I gave my truck a tune up years ago. Like over night. I don't know what happened. I gave it a tune up many times before. It was at like 27-32 interstate. (32 is with super unleaded to octane booster). Then it went to like 18-21. I figured it was something I did. So I check the plugs and such. Next time around I did another tune up. No change. You know what though. I just thought of something. I replaced the o2 sensor a while back (It was replaced once before and whoever did it bent the piss out of it and f*cked up the threads. Luckly the threads on the manafold was fine). Check engine light keeped going on and off. Vehicle stalling, and the 02 code was stored. When I replaced the o2 sensor. Everything was fine. But I never gave it a tune up after that. Last time I just changed the plugs. WIres were okay. That was still before the o2 sensor. I might want to check that out. Give it what I call a major tune up. Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, check pvc though I replaced it not to long ago, air filter. I know some of my plugs are fowled due to a little bit of oil. But this has been going on for along time. Even back when I got good mpg. Same thing with a little smoke on startup.

Check your tire pressure.  I have had as much as a 5mpg drop if the tire pressure is down.  

I usually get about 29 MPG running 30psi and it drops to the low 20's at 23psi.  I really hate it when the helpful people at the quick oil change place decide to set your tire pressure to factory recommendations...

Unlock your front hubs?

This may be out of left field and may not apply but here in Jersey when they change over to oxegenated (winter) gas, gas milage always drops, I don't know about up by you though.     HTH   Dave
