Well, thanks to Sarge (Kevin Lafferty), I finally got the Weber figured out. Then Fri a week ago, a rod started knocking. Understand, the reason I bought this Sami was it was completely rebuilt by a "professional" mechanic. Oh well, maybe not. Pulled the pan, things were not too bad, number 4 had a bad set of bearings, put in a complete set of bearings, put it back together. Ran fine...for 25 miles. I raised the issue with my able-bodied neighbor/mechanical helper--oil pressure? Put in a new oil pressure gauge, which I bought some weeks ago-hadn't had time to install. On start up, I had 50 pounds of pressure. After warm up about 25 (I was running pretty thin oil because I was going to dump it that evening)--I figured, o.k....when the knock started I was showing about 5 pounds of pressure! So, it seems the oil pump must be shot. Depending on how things look when we go back in, I may try just replacing the oil pump and another set of bearings. But....I am not interested in putting a lot of money into a 1300 engine.
   So (yeah, I'm finally here), what all do I need to go to a 1600 8v? I have a Calmini header, stock intake with a Weber on it. Can I use my top end? Since, none of the electronics are set up, how much do I need to change my wiring harness? Distributor? Should I go short block or long block or USED? What is the best source for parts? Any other info would be helpful. You don't have a 1600 sitting around you don't need, do you?
   Just call me down in the dumps before Christmas--no vacation this year.

Just get a conversion kit from some place like Hawk. The 8V is a pretty straightforward swap. You will need a conversion for your oil pan if you aren't lifted. Adapter plate at the bell housing, the "Spacer" on the engine mount. You can use the Head and Distributor off of the 1.3.  Yes it is smaller but, their is still a big power difference. Everything else is pretty much plug and play. You will use the 1.6 starter and alternator. I helped my roomate do his about 6 months back. It took a weekend. And day 2 was only tuning (He's picky ;D ).

Pretty much the case!

The only thing that I can add is:

Your new engine will be a bit taller so you might end up buying a shorter air filter on the Weber.

There are a number of engine adapter kits out there.  I went with the Calmini unit and it worked fine.  Some prefer adapter kits whose adapter plate go all the way around the end of the engine instead of typically around the top part.

You should convert to an electric fuel pump.  Especially if the backpressure tube on the mechanical fuel pump looks "wet" and caked with dirt or upon disassembly, you find gasoline on the back side of the pump.   This is a sure sign that gasoline is getting into your oil causing it to thin out which leads to increased wear (read bad bearings)!  Remove the drive pin and fab a cover plate to seal the pump hole up.  There is an article at Ack's Faq (See link in signature below) on how to do this.  Do a search for "electric and fuel" (omit the quotes) to find it!

Another thing that happens is the pressure
relief valve gets stuck, and causes low oil
PSI, I found a stuck valve after it scattered
my turbo in Moab, 800 miles from home  :(

I'm preparing for the swap too.

So far from what I've learned I need

-Adapter kit (trail tough, petroworks, calmini, aftermarket4x4)

If you don't go with petroworks, then you will need a small body lift to get things to fit. Also, you can use Dodge 318 motor mounts, with small modification.

The petroworks kit is full circle, and comes with rock solid motor mounts that keep the engine (and your center of gravity) low, so no need for a body lift.

You are planning on keeping the weber right? Otherwise you will need to modify your harness and speedometer to work with EFI, and add an electric fuel pump (either in your tank or external, mounted on the frame rail somewhere).

If you are going to go with EFI, let me know and I will send you a zip file with a guide to doing the 8v EFI harness modification.
