1.6 8v high idle trouble with TBI

            :-\ Looking for some help.  :'(
I just recently installed a 95 Kick 1.6 8 v w/ TBI in my Sammy.
I did the Trail Tough wiring and adapter thing.
The engine runs and sounds great, the trouble is I can't get the idle to drop down.
I don't have an in dash tach, but would guess it's hitting 2000 rpm while it warms up.
After the warm up it drops to maybe 1500 rpm.
After warm up I can also get it to drop a little by popping the gas pedal a bit, it will then go into the up and down idle mode, but it is still not the normal rpm range for idle.
I have a 180 deg. stat in it, have messed with the butterfly stop and can't find any other adjustment points.
My Haynes book ( 90010 ) does not show much on this in the way of troubleshooting.
I am going to check the Air Valve but the book I have is so dark I can't make out where the thing is. ( 15.29 )illustration.
I noticed it is PCM controlled, however.

Also I pulled the old PCM from my carb 1.3 engine and only have the 1.6 PCM plugged in.

Throttle cable could be too tight,
pulling the throttle open a bit

Made sure cable is loose, in fact I even removed it once to make sure there 
wasn't anyway to hold it open.

Sounds like the " WAX PELLET " has clamed another victim

High idle problems are common on this TBI
I expected better from Mikuni  :(

If the WAX PELLET has hit I think I'll try a 195 thermostat and see if I can melt the puppy down.

I think the pellet holds it open, but then
the slide thing sticks or hargs in the bore
after the wax gets hot and then doesn't
shut the high idle air off.

Check the cheap and easy first (no not my girlfriend :-X, vaccum hoses ;)). My 89 did that same thing for years. When I finally tracked the problem down it was just a cracked vaccum hose (Check the vaccum hoses towards the front of the vehicle, top of the motor, left hand side as your looking under the hood.  There are 3 to 4 of them together. That was all that caused my problems.

if it isnt vacum hoses then there are a couple of earth wires that come off that manifold they need to be earth or it will cause loads of issues,

if you have loose wires check them for voltage before you earth

I pulled the Wax Pellet / Air Gap cover and did the cold then hot check.
Looked like it was properly working.
I next installed 192 deg. themostat.
It's drivable, but still has high idle after warm.
Not as high as when cold though.
Checked all areas around TBI and manifold with carb cleaner while it was running.
Hoses included at both ends of each hose.
No difference in idle. Still to high.

Set TPS to book specs, checked ISC solenoid for Ohms.
I saw only one ground wire from the Trail Tough wiring that would go to the engine, it's near the themostat and it's tight.

Hummmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any more ideas ?????????? :D

Have you tried turning down the idle screw ?
these TBIs have an idle adjustment, of coarse
if the throttle cam isn't touching the screw this
will not help

Yep, I did that almost 1st, then tried cable to tight thing.

Is there something better than carb spray to find vacuum leaks?

OK, last idea from me

There is a kicker that opens the throttle a little,
check vacuum hose routing, as it's vacuum opperated,
and the TT wiring harness to make sure it's getting
the signal to the selonoids, also make sure it's not
pushing the throttle open a little, could need an adjustment

I think I might be able to find one, or check your Haynes book

thx Wild,

I did make sure the decel adjustment was not touching.
I only saw 2 external adjustments for any type of idle.
1. throttle stop.
2. decel plunger, vacuum activated.


I was just reading on some other posts about plugging off the intentional vacuum leak going into the manifold TBI area.
The hose in the nose trick.

I'm going to plug it tomorrow at work.
