Since I bumped into the guard-rail a while ago, I've been thinking about changing the color of my Tracker.



I want to go with either a really Dark Grey thats almost black or Black

I was thinking Granite Metallic from a 05+ Pontiac G6 would look nice, But I still need to see it in person cause it kinda looks brown in all the pics i've seen.
 
The paint store quoted me about $375 for 2qts of paint and 2qts of clearcoat and all the hardeners and activators for the Granite Metallic  

I went back yesterday to the paint store and looked again for more colors and come up with Dark Charcoal Metallic he said it was $86 a gallon  

I bet I could get black for way cheaper though.

Are you going to be offroading this thing or is it a street only vehicle?

If it's going to go offroad and get scratched and dented I can't see the purpose behind spending lots of money on something that will get damaged again.

Street only! Unless another deer gets the way again.

Dark Shadow Grey - Ford Vehicles - 02-05 definitely.

It is similar to the pontiac, but more grey, less brown.

Mineral Grey metallic - Ford Vehicles - 02-05,

More brown, less grey.

metallics are always more costly then a solid color..unless it's red..blackis pretty cheap tough. and a fresh black paint job always looks sooooooo dam sexy(  )

I put a pink hood on the Tracker (after I whacked a deer), and temporarily covered it with rattle can touch up that kinda matches.  (Pics on page 4 of reader's rides thread...)

I like Keith's OD paint, but I don't want to copycat, so I have been considering doing the whole truck in the lighter flat green Rustoleum camo.  The color is similar to the '89 light green metallic that was available on the Sidekick, except it's a flat finish that would be easy to touch up.  Flat finishes can also hide a lot of imperfections in the body...

The problem is, I've moved and don't have the garage any more, so the paint will have to wait a while.

Clearcoat is the expensive part, especially 2qts

Actually it was $80 a qt for the Granite Metallic paint.  :o 
And only $87 a gallon for the Dark Charcoal Metallic

Activator was $30 and Hardner was $40 a gal

I'm think I'm leaning more towards the Dark Charcoal.

What other stuff do I need?I'm gonna have a friend do it for me. He said buy the stuff and he'll do it. He used to do bodywork at a shop.

Oh yeah, what do I need to do to help the process go faster.

 Start peeling off the stickers and buy the beer for for your body shop buddy, this usually helps speed things up

 I speak from experiance, the liquid motavation really helps
 I did a buddies tracker in a weekend ( mask and spray Saturday/ Unmask and reassemble Sunday)

 Painted it a med blue, I bought 1 gallon (total mixed) and only used half ,this was 3 good coats not cheaping out and it has a better shine than the wifes 2002 car. Total cost was under 300 cdn (incl... tape, paper, and wash & wipe) beer was extra

I wonder how much stuff I could take off before it becomes illeagal to drive? Like grill, fenders, bumper lights.

I know I'm going to take all the interior out except the drivers seat. Because I think I'm gonna try to get him to paint that too.

Wow, when I had my car done, it was $180 for the clear, and the paint was only $26/qt, but that's Canadian funds  Maybey I got ripped off 

If you talk to the shop, they might let you have a 1/2 hour to take off the esentials, headlights & tail lights, everything else could be removed to save you some cash.

Honda CRV Silver Moss for 2005-2006.  Really cool color.  Darker than silver but lighter than dark gray.  I have it on the family CRV. Only have seen about 5 other CRVs in same color and we have travelled all over the country since last summer in ours looking to see if there are more.

Well I guess I'm keeping it the same color. The insurance check was wrote to my wife and I and the collision place.  >:(  I got enough back from the insurance to get it fixed without having to pay my $500 deductable. But Not enough to repaint the whole thing and I can't save enough to make up the differance.

SO...
I'm getting a new fender and fuel door,
The dent in the quarterpanel pulled,
The bumpers retextured,
The whole passenger side repainted,
All the stickers/graphics and emblems removed

The whole thing will be colorsanded and buffed/polished

He said it will look brand new when he's done.

My favorite color is the Charcoal/ Dark grey metallic from a 2004 toyota corolla S.  I dont really like the corolla (mostly because if you bump into something, it crumples like an egg shell , But I do like toyota ), But that is my favorite dark grey color. Another one is the dark grey that came on a 1992 Nissan Sentra . Dark grey metallic is my favorite color on a car, and it always looks real good with a neon red pinstripe, or with silver graphics (like the mid 1980s toyota pickups).
