My maniflod is cracked :o
Is there an aftermarket replacement or should I search the wreckers?
Does the Calmini manifold really make a difference?
Its a 92 JLX 16v

Weld it up or get the Calmini or other
aftermarket headers, should help power

Hey, I see that my manifold is cracked as well.

Do you have any recommendations for welding it?  My brother has a mig welder that I could use.  Do I have to remove it entirely to prevent the current from the welder from harming the electrical?  The crack it self is on the top(4th down pipe towards firewall), visible and accessible.  Not much if any rust present.

Thanks

Go for the Doug Thorley Tri-Y header as a replacement.  They really do make some difference in the overall performance and look very nice under the hood.

So is mine, between # 3 & 4 cylinders -- the usual place I'm told by Brent at TT.  I was advised that sucking in cold air (on deceleration) could cause warping a hot exaust valve.

I priced a new exhaust manifold at around ~$175 at the dealer. Thorley header is not that much more, although some additional fabrication will be required to mate with exhaust.

Not so sure about welding cast iron -- it's said to be kinda tricky. A specialty welder might be worthwhile.  Googling welding cast iron manifolds/heads reveals a lot.

The nice thing about a Thorley Exhaust header is the fact that it will not crack as easily as the cast-iron header.  BTW, this cracking is a problem on both the 1.3 and 1.6 exhaust header.

The bad thing about the Thorley header is, as someone has already mentioned, that you need to modify the downpipe connection on the exhaust system.

Also, there were at least two different types of 1.6 16-valve exhaust headers.  If you get one from t the junkyard, you may end up doing some fabbing if you get the wrong one.  Been there, done that.
