looks sweet Phillip. PLEASE don't go 'ricer' and make it weird colors. Plain alum or black is perfect.. make it look factory not a Pep boys accessory!!!

Wasn't the purpose of the open air filiment to get cold air into the intake? From this picture, there isn't much of an air flow behind that headlight structure to create a cold air induction. That hole on the side under the fender is where the stock was drawing cold air.
Another thing, being open filiment, there isn't much of a blockage for flying debri to keep from getting on the filter.

I tried not to use the term "cold air intake" but in one of my posts I did reference it.  I always hated the term "cold air intake" because it should really be called "different air temperature intake".  


Most of the gain would be from removing the stock airbox and providing a smoother path for incoming air.  I'm not sure what affect if any breathing underhood air would be.  For years many older cars use air systems that drew underhood air in and the engine ran fine.

I don't see a big problem with debri plugging the filter.  I ran a K&N cone filter on my old Sidekick for a few years and never had any problem, on the street or wheelin.

Just a follow up on this. I installed a similar thing, a modified air intake but mine makes a lot of throtle noise at high RPM, i gues throtle  noise. What do you do to reduce the noise??

Here is a message in posted recently but no answers
recently bought and installed a custom made air intake (K&N Filter), after removing the traditional air box. My suzuki  Escudo increased speed and horsepower, though the Litres per kilometer seemed not to change much. What I hated most was the increased noise from the front, I gues throtle noise especially when I would be overtaking or when I accelerate so much ie when RPM would go up to say 3.5rpm. Because of the increased noise, I hated, I had to remove the supper funnel and go back to the traditional air box, But now I miss the high HP and speed I had got used to. So I am asking what I can put or how I could do it to reduce the noise.

Can't get rid of the noise.  The stock airbox does make it quieter remove it and you will hear more intake noise.

Most guys not all, don't mind the noise for the extra h.p. it frees up.

Hi

I'm a newbie at this, but do these intake filters work? does anyone have figures on what the HP increase is - I'm looking at making the mod but wanted to get some clarifications as to the benefit.

I like the look of the ones at www.zookincustoms.com as I do not have the skills to conjur up the mod myself.

I really didn't have an option on mine,the stock XL7 airbox wouldn't fit in the corner. I made my brackets out of some aluminum 1" strap stock.

would be a hood scoop and filter box
for a true cold air ram system, like the
Subaru Turbo has on the Impreza  is it ???

i do very much like the idea also, if an when this becomes reality i am also up for one, i understand you have been working on all the correct tubing and parts, but do you have an idea of time before its complete?

Interesting but XL7s drown in water too easily, I guess this setup moves the air intake directly out of the water ram injection (sarcasm) provided inside the front fender but do you have any ideas on better waterproofing the XL7, maybe a snorkel
