2.0 slug(gish)
« on: January 24, 2011, 12:56:36 PM »
Ive got a 99 tracker with a 2.0 auto  and this thing is a dog most of the time once you get it up in the rpms it seems to go like i would expect   what it does ...  starts fine take off seems ok till you step on the gas in gear then it falls on its face if you let off the gas it starts to pic up speed then... I  down shift & it comes alive &I shift as needed till Im going speed limit  but under load no power  . It dosnt show any codes  I got the car with a couple bent valves & a broken timing chain I replacedthe bent parts &installed achain kit. the compression was good and the car ran fine for the summer .any ideas ??

A couple of bent valves and a broken timing belt  ??? - are you sure  ???

Here's the thing - the 1.6 uses a timing belt, 2.0 uses a timing chain (two actually)

ya it was a chain I put the whole timing chain kit (chains sprockets tensioners)  on and 2 intake valves & all new seals ,head gasket the car seemed fine during the summer

that was something I thought about but wanted to try easier things first  it seem to have good fuel presure acording to chiltons
I think I will try putting a test type pipe in & see if that makes it better  since the filter & pressure test gained me nothing

Mine's having the same issue, but if I "wiggle" the wire for the downstream O2 sensor, it'll rev up.  I'm thinking either the sensor is bad, but not bad enough to throw a code, or the converter is stopped up a bit.

I should mention that I've received an "EGR Flow malfunction" CEL a couple of times.  The first time I cleaned the EGR vavle pretty good, and it went away, but came back and went away by itself.

I should also add that if I disconnect the downstream O2 sensor, that nothing changes.  No CEL or anything  ???

I have a 2000 2.0 4X4 Tracker Automatic also.  It has 90000 miles.  IT is sluggish also.  Cat converter 1 or 2?  Going to watch this post.

Thanks

I put a converter test pipe in & that made no difference but I have moved the timing & it runs a little better  but ...I think the biggest thing I did was adjust the trans cable  its drivable now   but not like a friends rig w/ same engine? trans  combo

Do you have the 2 separate converters?  If yes, which one did you put the test pipe in?

Any insight on how you adjusted the trans cable?

Mine's definitely either the downstream O2 sensor bad and not throwing a code, or something in the wiring for it, cause I can wiggle the wires and make the idle change, but I can also unplug that same O2 sensor while it's running and nothing changes, no CEL or anything.  It's kinda frustrating.  ???

I think it will take a few min. of running with the o2 unplugged to have the cel come on thats the way it was with mine I left it unplugged whenI put test pipe in   I plugged it in an the cel went off after a few min
I cant tell you the proper way to adjust the trans cable but I played with it on a nearby road till it drove with less fallin on its face when the trans shifted it didnt take a lot of movment to make a difference
