My 06 2.7L will throw a code without cats.  It will also throw a code it the two 02 cat out sensors are not somewhat close, or not tracking similar to first sensor.  You can run with a standing alarm, but without checking you will not know when another code comes in.
I do not know of anyone that can reprogram the Suzuki ECM, other than the 3.6L.  The 3.6 can be reprogramed because it is a joint engine with Chevrolet, so it has been added to most reprogram tools.

You could probably purchase any cat delete dummy O2 sensor and just wire it with the plug needed for the Suzuki.  The ecm is looking for the front sensor to constably change from 0-1 volt, but it is looking for the rear sensor to be a steady reading near to .5 volts.  If it is following the reading of the front sensor, the ecm sets the fault.  The cat doing its thing causes a steady O2 content in the exhaust, thus it is looking for that steady reading.
