My 1.6 had only 12,000 miles before i got sick of it and went V-6,tracker now has 16,500 original miles and 17000 on the V-6. ;D

Daily Driver: '00 Tracker 2.0 146,000 miles

Trail Rig: '96 Tracker 1.6 128,000 miles

I don't think either one are near the end of their life. 8)

Awesome, I would have never guessed that these things had the longevity comparable to a toyota truck ;D ;D ;D. I am happy to know that mine has plenty of life left in it. It now has a little over 126,000 on it, with a JDM motor that is supposedly in the 50,000 mile range. It is also good to know that the drive train will last 2 bodys ;D. The only thing I have left to do on mine is fix the engine surging problem that occurs when the headlights are on, and possibly rebuild the transmission(eventually, mostly because 2nd is a little grindy, and 5th makes an interesting growl, screech wirr noise, but not incredibly loud (it is probably one of the bearings)).

glad to hear the newer 2.0's will last as well TN_Tracker,  my '01 2.0 has only got 73k on it and runs perfect

anyone else with high miles on a 2.0?

My '91 1.6 has 160K miles on it and it increases by 84 per day because of my commute to work.  Uses a little oil, maybe a qt every 3000 miles or so. It's my DD and I'm hoping to use it on a trip to Ohio (from SC) this summer. It's like a 4WD Visa card, because it takes me everywhere I want to go   ;D

My 1.6 was in a 89 auto 4 speed tracker all its life... it seemed tired when i first put it in.. but after running the crap out of it for about a week its almost like the rings re seated and it feels like a low K motor.. im quite happy with it for a 300 K 4 cyl... I can spin my 33's on dry pavement :P and it hauls along at 100 K quite nicely

my 89 tracker has 57,000, but not sure how many times it has actually kicked over the top and started over again. ::)  got it and it hadn't been registerd since 92 when it had 17,000.  but it puffs smoke on a cold morning.  and the fan clutch bit the dust.

168,000 never even had the valve cover off.  Just a puff of smoke when you first start it in the morning.

Bagwell, you might want to take the
valve cover off and adjust the valves.

I did the same thing, and lost the
exhaust valves, and needed a valve job
at 200,000 miles, which was the beginning
of the end of the engines life.

New valves killed the rings, and at 240,000
I needed a rebuild

I have the same issue with 5th.  Not sure exactly what it is but you may be correct.  I did see something on that topic in the forum though.

Goody, what is the interval for valve adjustment?

Mine taps a bit when cold.. but quiets down when warm..   gotta be valves.. nothing serious..

no smoke.

I guess I should adjust the lash huh?  and go ahead a put a fresh timing belt on too..

I guess this would be a good time to ask.. is this a non-interference engine? I mean, when a timing belt breaks, does it take the valves out with it?

My poor 4-door has been through hell.
1995 - I'm the original owner.
172,000 miles.

TWO teenagers learned how to drive on it.  Manual transmission.  In the mountains.  Poor baby.  Then last Easter (during EJS) my son had his car stolen.  "Dad, can I borrow your 4-door?"  I got it back at Thanksgiving.  It had been BADLY abused.  Oil was at least 2 quarts low.  Sounds like one rod may be knocking.  *sigh*

Valves should be adjusted, or at least checked
every 15,000 miles. These valves seem to tighten
as they wear, which is the problem, if they loostened
they would just make noise.

The 8V and 16V are non interference engines, tho
there are some differing oppinions, in my tests, both
checked out as non.
