Body Lift Pics
« on: March 22, 2006, 01:18:54 PM »
So I finished the body lift and here are teh after pics. I was going to take before pics, but my camera batteries died and I didn't want to wait to get new ones before starting. This is the RRO 2" body lift. Unlike the XL7, I didn not have the modyfy the blocks at all.

Good to know.  So what did you do with the bumpers?  It looks like you trimmed the bottom off of the bumper covers front and rear, anything else?

Man that gas tank hangs low.  Makes you really wish you could do the gas tank lift ;)

There are a few things to know before doing this.
1-detatch the brake line bracket from the body ont he passangers side.
2-The evap canister lines need to be lengthenes, I got some 1/4 tubing about 8 inches, it's only short by about 2 inches, but detach it when lifting becuase it will have far to stretch.
3-Detatch rear parking brake lines from frame in the center under the GV. There are actually 2 more points to unbolt on the axle as well, one on each side.
4-Ubbolt the fulel filler hose, I  pulled in a little and put the gas cap back on to keep the gas smell contained.
5-disconnect the front compressor hoses that go tot he compressor in the front bumper.

I decided to trim the bumpers rather than cut into the bumper support. I will put a skid plate in the front and perhaps fab up a pre-runner bar. As you can tel the rear bumper only needs minor trimming to fit over the bumper. I decided to trim the bumpers and keep the stock mounting points for everything. I will also fab up a rear skid plat to cover the gas tank.

Oh, and remember to jack up both front tires all the way off the ground before removing/reinstalling the Strutt brace. When fully lowered the struts go towards each other, when lifted the spread apart. The strut bar is the length of the struts spread apart. Just an FYI.

hmmm.... good to know.  I removed mine to examine it and think about modifying it, but getting it back on was a PITA.  Now I know why  ::)

Yeah, I noticed that if you use strut spacers and leave the strutt bar out, you're most likely loosing 1/2" or more lift becase the front saggs. The Strut bar is also there to keep the struts in the position/angle. With it removed the weight of the front pushes down on the suspemsion and spreads the bottom of the suspension apart.

U refering to my lift? My truck has the strut brace init. i did not notice any difference at all.Nor did CE1 2NR but either way i would put the brace in there it helps on all upper macpherson strut Cars and trucks. U just cut 25mm out of it thats all.

Yeah i use strut spacers but also have a 1.5" spacers for the strut bar but u need to cut the strut brace. i could prevent the cutting of the strut brace but i would have to make a alum plate and i know people would not be willing to pay for it so cutting it is cheap. Muffler shop will charge u $20 on a bad day max

You might not notice a difference becuase you put the spring spacers in. But I can guarantee you that if you pu the strut brace back in, you will go up at least a half inch in the front. The way the front suspension works is as you know you get 2" of lift from a 1.5" or 1.17" spacer. so what I'm saying is that if you currently have a 1.75" spacer int he front and a 2" spacer in the rear to make it level, with the strut brace you might only need a 1.5" spacer to make it level with a 2" rear spacer.

We will see i have some crap to do RRR im not even gonna comment on what it is.

The bar made no difference on my lift at all that i noticed before and after. the strut towers caving in would only cause negative camber.
