Rock Rat was working on producing some Kick stuff. PM him and see if he has developed anything yet.

I'll tell you that INSTALLING the Calmini cage is...exciting.

I had mine done by a very skilled welder, and it took us 12 hours.  Hope you don't mind FLAMES!  We had a few "oops" moments, as things caught fire.

It's some really TIGHT welding.

And now, because I have a really long body, my head is always bumping into the roll-cage padding.

I got the padding from Summit Racing, I think.

A good option for you would be like Mike Hagens. Front is open Cab with no cage but the rear had a VERY sturdy full cage. I would guess Mike about your height too. PM him and get him to send you some pics.

HaHa - I'm only 6 feet tall, but I have short legs, and a long body.  So, my head is close to the roof in my 2-door.  Other people that ride with me, their heads are BELOW the roll bar.  Lucky me.

The Calmini cage "wiggles" around the dash, and has a bar across the top of the windshield, and the main hoop, that goes behind your head.

i don't ahve a cage yet and i was going to make a cage like mike kind of but steel is $8 a ft. for 1 1/2" .125 thickness dom tubing and it only comes in 20 ft joints that is $160plus i have to bend it all. i can't mess up because it is going to take about 18" to make a rear cage.

Why .125 DOM? it is overkill for a zuk cage. 1.5" .120 wall HERW is all you will need for a zuk cage. It goes for like $2.70 per foot.

Thanks

And don't start with NHRA reqirements and such. you will never go 300mph in your zuk and if you do the cage won't help cause the frame will come apart.

I don't think a Zuk would hit 300 MPH, even in free-fall!

Sounds like you are getting DOM prices. I get my stuff from Patton and Industrial metals they deliver free if ya buy over $200.00 and that is worth it to me. I have also gotten stuff from Rancho Metals here in town (Temecula CA) But any Metal suypplier should be cheaper than $6 per foot.

We use DOM for suspension parts and such. DOM stands  for drawn over mandrel which makes the molecular structure similar to a forging. It is very srong  very stiff stuff but overkill in a sammy or kick cage.

Use HERW ( hot rolled electricly welded) mild for your cage, no span over 3 feet and triangulate at least one section of both sides, you will be fine. If you are still nervous then use gussets and you can also use corner bends on any of the but joints too. Overkill again but looks COOL.

They tried a MINI once 128 was top speed the jumpers had to keep in a flair to not pass it up. a couple guys got in and acted like they were driving. the video from the camera guy at the wheel looked cool.

There is an 80 something senta out near canyon lake that is just demolised and about half stuck in the ground. I always wonder if the perris valley jumpers took it up and gave it a ride.

Thanks
Wayne
