When stopped you can turn off the headlights by pulling up slightly on the emergency brake.  I have had a car with them and found that you do get used to them after awhile.

Thanks Keith!!
When I posted I should have said I have tried that one & it does work, except the PB. lite stays on! However that is what I may end up doing, & possibly slack the cable a bit! The terrain here is flat, & I can't remember the last time I used the PB on my cherry 300D. But I do use it a little on my Sami. when off road. I just hate the Safety Police minding my business!
THANKS MAN!

You could put a "light disable" switch on the dash.

I wonder why you want to turn off your headlights, though - so somebody can't see you while you're sitting in your GV with the engine running?

You're not a stalker are you?   ::) :o ???

He drivers the get away car and doesn't want to be spoted  ;) ;D

By the way there is a relay under the dash that you can pull but doing so kills the brake idiot light.
I will try and find the info for you.

Was thinking of doing this before I got involed in an accident. One of the first things the State tropper did (That blew my mind! :o) was ask the year of our vehicles.
He them pulled out what looked like a OBDII tester and checked (I'm assuming) to see if lightes were on, who applied brakes as opposed to who was still on the gas and if seat belts were being worn. What ever he did I was in the right and the other guy was in the wrong ;).
Both vehicles were obviously set up for offroad by the way maybe that's why he checked us out like that, who knows? :-/

Well im not sure on the vitara but on some GM vehicles its as easy as pulling the drl fuse out ! had a 97 S10 and thats all i did but becareful i had a 97 pontiac sunfire and i tried that and lost all lights on the left side of the car so i just did the e-brake thing and pulled the dash light out I know on some new GM cars you have to put a jump wire in the drl relay to disable it. Theres a how to on this on a Jbody forum that i am a member of
http://www.jbody.org If you wanna check it out

In america Daytime Running lights are not required YET as they are in canada so i think you would've been ok.
GM just installes them in all vehicles (since 1996) to exceed safty standards although there is talk about making them manditory in the US b/c of the proven safty issues in canada

But it is still considered a safty feature. That's why you (well I do) get an insurance discount for having it.

In my 98 Tracker I just pulled the pin in the large connector of the steering column. Then I stuck a business card (or my sunglasses) on the instrument panel to cover the light that says they are on.

No mystery, just read the GM FSM for the daytime running lights.  Which I was really familiar with after having troubleshot why my newly installed cruise control would only work in the daytime.  Not just any switched hot will work (the method of running hot through a device, then switching the ground side is a painful experience).

I wished as much effort was put into teaching people to #$|removethispart|@%%$&%$ drive as there is in making them dependent sheep.

Enjoy!

yea, pretty much, more resistance on the alternator therefor more resistance on the motor. The other thing is that I am already on my third set of headlight bulbs mostly because the freaking lights are on all the time, even when it's warming up.. I now just have the high beams on when I'm warming up my gv so the low beams don't get burned out as fast.. doesn't work if the sun is all the way out though... stupid automatic crap! :P.. at least I have a manual tranny, thank god for that
