sammi t-case shifting trouble???
« on: January 09, 2005, 10:33:07 AM »
OK, gettin ready to put this sammi case I have into my tracker. I have it on the floor, and try to run through the shift pattern. I have 2wd hi, and 4wd hi, but I can't get into low??  ???

The shifter only moves back and forth, not to either side AT ALL. Do I have a problem?

Shift rods weren't lined up right or the shifter sheet is bad.

What's the fix?

Pull the shifter, align the shifter forks and make a square box. Ensure that the rubber bushing under the shifter ball is in good shape. If not order a new shifter sheet (bushing) Put in the bushing, Put the shifter back in and it should work like a champ

if ur sammi has more than 50,000 miles on it replace the spring, shifter pin, and the shifter bushing that should cure ur problem or just order the kit form hawk. http://www.hawksuzukiparts.com/

I think the kit that you are talking about is for the trans! not the tranfer case.

Any pics? Also, what do you mean make a box? Make a box with the shifter forks?? Never had the top end of a t-case apart!

Pull the TC Shifter, there are two shift rods that should look like this [] if aligned properly in neutral. Check the rubber bushing (sheet) to see if it's worn.

If your lucky you can pull the shifter out and use a  large screw driver to align the shift pins without taking apart the case.

I know someone sold a tool you could use to pop the spring plate off without having to drop the transfer case, not sure where to get it though.  You could make one easily enough though.

No where!! Just got the trackick back together yesterday. Grounded the starter, put the manifold and exhaust back on, rear d-shaft, modified 4x4 tranny x-member.

Today's the intake, adjust clutch linkage, get shocks mounted in the rear, redo the coil captire for the rear springs, and then I'll do the shifter. I hope it's nothing serious!!!! :-/

Can you take some pictures of your Transfer Case where your shifter goes in?
