My new trac
« on: November 05, 2004, 06:30:52 AM »
Hi all,

I picked up a '91 automatic lsi tracker last weekend and am going to do a mild trail rig outta it ... The stocker is incredibly clean (engine is immaculate), running good, and everything is in working order.

I'm thinkin' 30x9.5 with a 2" BL and some 1" spring spacers (trimming as needed).

Some pics of the build progress are here
http://www.avalonforest.com/geo/

I'm *just* getting started, so the remaval of uncessary bits, fluid changes, etc are being done now. the BL and spacers are on their way. A herculiner job on the inside, and some other interior mods (CB, stereo, GPS, etc) are also on the todo list. Also have to get some sorta top (I _want_ a protop, but that's almost a budget breaker).

Great! Welcome to Zuk-dom.

Nice rig too, looks like you can do some good work with the body massaging.

FYI, I fit 30x9.50's on my 91 trackick with just the 1" spacer lift from RRO. Only rubbed the frame at full lock, but it doesn't even do that anymore.

Remove the bumper covers, weld the rear end, get some 30's, and a skid plate to cover the under belly and some rock sliders. You will be set!! I followed SAS rigs, duel lockered rigs, 33's, 35's EVERYWHERE, and never got stuck once. I was impressed.  ;D

Good lil wheelin rigs!

I've got the covers stripped already ... I think this is going to be just what I wanted outta a trail rig (plus parts/beer run rig).

I've got a "costs" sheet running here ...
http://www.avalonforest.com/geo/costs.html
That alone is a hard thing to do :) ... and the wheels/tires are going to be a hunt.
My goal is to stay around $3k total for now (and I'm *way* under that so far). A hard top is going to be a hard button to push ....

I'll agree with the first part.  I ran 30x9.50's on my 4 door without any lift.  You just hjave to get rid of the inner lip on the inside of the rear fenders.  I wouldn't weld up the rear though.  Hard on axles.  Since it doesn't sound like a trailer queen I'd spend the money on a locker.  I happen to know somebody with one for sale ;)  He's even right down HWY 18 from ya ;D

brian ... tell me more :)

I'd luv to put 5.12's in with a locker rear. (my auto has 4.62 today). It is definetly on my todo list.

I got 5.12s in mine, with 31x10.50's, night and day difference between the 4.62's and the 31s.

Well I finally got my new tires mounted to the cheapo rims I'd picked up ...

I went with 31x10.50 Yokohama Geolandar's ... they are nice and meaty, but *very* quiet on pavement. Downside is I expect they'll wear fast, but good and soft when offroad (probably 50% of the hours are going to be non-pavement anyway).

My minimal lift (2"body, 1" spacer) meant some trimming was need at the rear of the front fenders. After the initial cuts I'm clearing good, with a little more cleanup inside to eliminate *all* rubbing it should be perfect. I really have to work at it to get into the frame (and I might just fix that by adjusting the stops a little).

(this pic is with the outter fender sliced and then posed to stuff in the tire)

The rears on the other hand are hitting the fender lip ...

I'm thinking a "virtual" body lift (slice and bend the fender as much as necessary). Another 1" on the BL woulda done it, but I hate the 2" I already had to do :) I don't mind some body massaging ...

Some more pics ...
