I took my GV offroad for the first time last weekend.
Overall I was pretty impressed at how well it did considering its only running Dunlop AT2's.

My goal for the car is to turn it in to a more than capable 4x4 but it is also my Daily driver at the moment.
Initially I am seeking to gain some more ground clearance under the wagon. I want to fit mud tyres around 30" and some decent suspension. I am also thinking of getting a lower ratio transfer box, such as the Rockhopper (I am used to the engine braking of my Dad's diesel landrover).
My Questions here are what sort of modification is required (suspension/body lift or both) to fit 30 inch tyres to a 3 door, also What are other driveline modifications would these gears require?

An Old Man Emu suspension should clear 30" tires no trouble.  In fact, I have 225/75R16's under my wife's bone stock XL7.



Got any more specs and pics of your truck?  Most of us here in the USA have never seen a 2 door hard top 99+.

The 2 Door hardtops are pretty common here in New Zealand. a lot of them are used in fleets and mine is ex city council. I don't know too much specs-wise, its running the G16B motor and is a  5 speed manual. I'm guessing the rest is pretty similar to your ones. Tyres are 215/65/16. Here are a couple more pics

That's pretty cool man.  I'd say an Old Man Emu lift and some 225/75R16's should revolutionize it for you.  Maybe those t-case gears as well.  You guys actually have a bit more support for the 99+'s over there than we do.

Consider a rear locker.  You'll be amazed what you can do afterwards.

I have an auto 2002 3-door Grand Vit as well. The only mods I've done so far are the OME suspension lift and fitted 225/75R16 ATs (29.4"). The tyres just rub on the plastic guard behind the front bumper, ie they rub so gently all it does is scratch the mud off. I wouldn't go any bigger without bringing out Mr Hammer.

I'm about to change my diff ratios from 4.88 to 5.12 and will also be installing an airlocker in the rear.

Even with just the suspension and decent tyres, you can get nearly everywhere you need to go, without doing anything stupid that is
