sidekick spool info
« on: December 21, 2004, 01:13:57 AM »
Hi everyone , I'm thinking about building my own rear spool but have a couple of doubts regarding the size , and as my sidekick is 91 carbureted I was wondering if the rear axles in newer (94-up) have the same size or number of teeth in the axle itself the ones that couple with the spool on each side , does anybody know?
thanks

Yes, the rear is the same in all sidekick and tracker models. They are 26 spline. The only ones that are different are the fronts.

The only thing that really changes in the rear is the differential ratios, if you have a manual, you most likely have 5.12 gears, if you have a 3 speed auto, you have 4.62's, and if you have a 4 speed auto (overdrive) you have the 5.12's.

Also, there are 10 bolt and 12 bolt rear ends. Usually 92+ are 12 bolt (most of them with ABS brakes in the rear) and 91- 89 are usually 10 bolt.

;)

I understand you are going to make one, I'll tell you that purchasing one will only cost you $99 bucks, otherwise, why not just weld the rear? (lincoln locker)

did it, now 2 sets of axle shafts into it and it only get 100 road miles a year!  have hed it welded for 2 years.  i like it because of traction but hate the tire ware and road manners.

Some new info, it was there all the time
I just noticed it  ::)

The 3 speed auto Trackers with a 16V
engine came with 4.30 diff gears, I don't
know if the SideKicks came that way also,
I would assume so but ???

I'd never heard of 4.30 at all. I know overseas you get 4.88's... I wonder if the other poster is absolutely sure.

I have a set of 4.30's and a set of 4.88's, I think the 4.30's were a california only type of thing for the smog standards(so many rev's per mile) they look strong!

A locker, will ratchet and allows some
differential effect, a spool does not and
twists alxes or slips a tire
