Samurai tire pressure on highway
« on: September 17, 2007, 07:01:53 PM »
Hello everyone, I have brand new 30" softer compound radial mud tires and I'm heading out on a road trip, all pavement, and I don't know what pressure to run them at.  I usually run them at 18 lbs for city and off road, oh yeah, my locker stays locked on the highway as well.  Any knowledgeable advice would be much appreciated.  :)

Recommended pressure is 22-26 pounds I believe, it should say on your door jam.  I would use that as a starting point.

I agree... At that pressure you should be able to see what parts of the tire are actually hitting the road... Those areas will be darker due to friction. If they darker on the inside center of the tread then take a few pounds off and drive it again... Due this untill you see it's even all the wat across the tread face.

It says 20 lbs in the door which is why I was asking.  Sounds too low too me so I'm going to start at 25 lbs, drive for an hour and check my tread.  Thanks for the advice!

With my 32" Swampers I run 15psi on the road during the summer. And any where from 3-5psi during the winter. And was mentioned before, what tire wear? My tire are over 10yrs old and the side walls are cracking well before the trtead is wearing out, and that includes having them on an old locked CJ2A before putting them on my locked SJ.

As for the door sticker, that is for the stock doughnuts that came on the rig. The tires you have replaced them with are way different than the stockers. You will have to experiment with psi to get the ride, wear, and traction that feels good to you.
