If you have'nt replaced your fuel filter in a while try that! It's been years since I had a carbed sammy but I used to find that the fuel bowl would get dirt and sediment in it.
When off roading or hitting road bumps at high speeds the fuel would slosh and stir up the crap in the bowl and it would clog the jets. It would sputter and usually clear itself out. But it wouldn't be long until it would happen again!
Like I said it's been years but if I remeber correctly it's fairly simple to take the bowl off the carb and clean it and the jets!

You might also try taking the air cleaner off and spraying some carb cleaner down there. Then try reving it up pretty good and put your hand over the opening and see if you can suck what ever if anything might be hanging up in one of the passages. It will probably die when you do it. I think it's called the redneck carb cleaning.  That's what I would try first (after checking out the fuel filter). Also check all your vacuum hoses and make sure none have vibrated loose.

I've had a fuel go out kind of slow before. It could be the fuel pump but you hate to just start throwing parts at her. Hawk will sell you a new mechanical fuel pump pretty cheap as will the dealer.  Hawk adds shipping >:( Chain auto parts stores wanted more when I've tried them in the past. I think the going rate is around $42.00. :-\

i had that exact same problem. i would be driving normally, on the road and it would slowly start to die and then just choke out completely, i would wait a few mins and it would start right back up but do the same thing. i had a garage look at it, they charged me 91 bux and told me they had no idea. let me know if you figure this out. good luck!!

I agree that it sounds like leaning out. Change out your fuel filter (it's hiding under truck near passenger tire) - do the redneck carb clean (you can take out the long stud with pliers - makes it easier to cover the hole in your carb).

If this doesn't fix it - I'd look more towards the fuel pump. It COULD be electrical (bad coil / coil wire?), but sounds like it's leaning out, and is a fuel issue to me.
