Help, Sidekick info 101.

Help, Sidekick info 101.

I have a '95 kick, 4x4, 4dr, auto w/od, 16v.

I need to find the basic info on this thing. Things like tune up info, basic PN's, things like that.

Right now I see no need to spend the coin on a FSM as I just need the basics. And I no longer trust the chilton-haynie rags.

Too many things gone wrong from reading those in high school. Other than the $$ spent, I did learn from their.... er, my, mistakes. ::)

I would give Hawk Suzuki a call.  They usually have the FSM's available and you can order a Tune-Up kit that comes with all the standard parts.  :)

Other then that, most items can be found with either the Search or Acks Faq (http://www.acksfaq.com/).  Great pickup though, welcome to the Zuki world.  :)

Hey Drone, thanks for the welcome but it's a few years late. :laugh:

As I stated I really do not feel like spending the $100 for an FSM that I really do not need. I will have to give acks thing a try again, I had problems the last time I tried to use his site.

As for the tune up parts, I pretty much have that covered here locally.

How about a link to one of those on-line FSM's?

J, thanks man. That link gave me a copy of the owners manual that pretty much has all the basic info I need. Now if I can find a list of PN's for the common replacement parts.

And Drone, when you mentioned my truck. You were refering to the Dodge right? If so, it is a great truck. Sad too see the thing parked now, diesel prices are out of hand. It only gets about 13 mpg. :P

Actually I think they are a little more expensive than that now. It is the same with anything You already know how frustrating it is trying to use a sub standard repair manual. Spend the money on the FSM I bet you will get your money back in saved time and aggravation within the first year. Then when/if you sell the truck throw the manual in and raise the price 200.00 for it. Cha-ching!You just doubled your money. Or you can continue to use sub standard reference books and second hand advice. your choice.

What kind of basic info do you need? I have access to a manual, I could look something up for you. As for p/n's, I've never needed a manual to buy parts, I just walk in or call any parts store and ask for something, they do the rest. The p/n's listed in the manual are going to be dealer numbers(and they may not be good, Honda for example will have a new release of the same part, and give it a new part number, then discontinue the old number), so places like NAPA/UAP, Advanced Auto, CarQuest, etc. are going to have their own numbers. Suzuki numbers will not be of good use.
If your rig is running good, and you're only looking for basic, change the air filter, oil, oil filter and fuel filter, then mark down your milage so you know when it was done last.

You could also try an account on alldatadiy.com.  Account is cheap and has almost the same info as in the FSM for most common jobs.

OK, I guess I may have phrased my PN question wrong. I was just looking for a few numbers to keep so that I could use them when the Parts store has a difficult time finding the parts. I will just worry about that when I need a new part.

And no I will not buy an FSM for this thing, so please quite telling me to. I have one for a SJ410 and one for my Samurai. I have no need to go buy another one.

As this thing is just going to get ran into the ground as a DD it is an expense I do not need. I will not be doing any mods to it.

For some reason I don't think the part numbers are going to help you out with the parts store guy. ;D

Walmart has some books with some of the basic stuff in it like filter numbers and plug numbers might even have pvc valve in there also but not sure on the cap and rotor.

On the walmart side their book showed no part for a sidekick airfilter.  Had to go to autozone.  Guy looked through the fram filters and didn't have it.  He found one in a STP and it worked fine.  The fuel filter is joke on these.  My housing was so corroded it was not coming apart.  I picked up a generic one from walmart that has a mount already built on to it and uses standard hoses.  I drilled into my frame and mounted it and ran a new hose bypassing the original.  Fired her up and checked for leaks.  No problems so far.  I hate to say it but the filter setup on my fords with the plastic clips are the easiest I have ever changed.  Wished all cars had that setup.  I was also surprised the plug gap wasn't on the emmisions label on my sidekick.  It shows which brands and what model but not the gap.  It was in the haynes manual though.

Depends on what kind of parts place you go too. I still have access to a real parts store that knows what they are doing. If they have a PN they can match it 90/95% of the time. And they know how to cross reference. ;)

Along the lines of the wally world stuff, don't trust it too much. I pulled my airfilter last night too check it and noticed it was a fram filter. When I was at ww today I could not find the # in the parts book, and I never thought to get the # as I figured the book would list it.

I hate fram anyways so no big lose. One of the cheapest filters made.


And yes, I know I am not spelling it correct. :laugh:

If you have access to a real parts store who knows what they are doing, you won't need parts numbers.  Heck, the guys at Autozone & Advance can find the parts so surely your "real parts" store will have no problem.

I was just looking for some part numbers to help get a file going on the parts needed for keeping this thing running. I guess this question was kinda out of place here.

And as you reference autozone and advance as an auto parts store, you must not know what a real auto part store is.


By the way, the closest advance store is something like 1500+ miles away. The nearest autozone is closer at about 100 miles. But why drive that distance for the fast food attitude from the guy behind the counter? I could drive the twenty miles to the nearest schucks and get the same attitude.

Dang, I am unhappy the way this has turned out.

I was just looking for some easy info on this rig and most of what I got was a preaching.

I have been doing this Zuki thing for awhile now and thought I would get some helpful info, not answers a newby would have thrown at him.

Thank you all for your time in this matter.



By the way, how many remember the Avenza threads?
