I put a sidekick alt in mine, it tested out at 69 amps, if you put the gm one in just don't get it wet or muddy. the guys around here have taken them back out!

I've splashed tons of mud and water on my GM remy alt with no problems. I do use dilectric grease on all my connections though, maybe that helps? I also clean and inspect the engine compartment after every real muddy outing, taking care to clean any mud or debris from the alt, alt fan, belts, pullys, radiator and fan housing. Regular maintenance helps.
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

If you go with the big alt from a chevy beef up your bracket so that it does wobble side to side!!  And mine gives me fits when I use my winch or jump start someone!  Blows the 30 amp fuse!

I just did one on my DD and love it. Go with a 100 amp or smaller. I tried a 120 and it was just to big. Could have made it fit but no clearance once installed. I used one off of a 90 suburban .
