URE 4xcross results (pics & Video too)
« on: May 13, 2008, 06:39:44 AM »
Raced the 1998 2-dr Sidekick.

1.6L 16v auto 5.13's 2" coil spacers, 2" body lift, fender trim, Open / Open on 31" TSL's.

I took 6th out of about 30.  The truck did well as many did not even finish.  The course was brutal with losts of crashes and breakage!

I did manage to push the passengerside control arm back about 1/2" diving into a rock at speed stopping the truck.  Also bent the strut towers in (Alot).  I didn't have time to fab up the needed strut brace.  2nd run I just taemd the jumping down a little and tried not to bottom out so hard.

Things I would change next time.

Bettter Bump stops and limit straps
Strut tower brace
Front skid plate
Turbo
remove rear seat & tire carrier
100# sand bag in the rear

Hell of a job!Tha was a lot of carnage, and to see you finish after all of it was great.Sorry about the damage your rig took, but it goes to show how tough these little rigs are.In near stock condition you did what many other trucks could not.
  Great pics,keep em coming.

That looked like a pretty gnar race, some heavy carnage.

Did you kick have a pretty hard time or was it pretty easy going?

I can't believe that they let that xj cherokee on the course! Otherwise looks like a good place to watch people break their trucks.

Props on the solid finish. Way to put the big rigs to shame. I can't believe you would put all that work into making your bombproof front diff and then not even bother to put a skid plate under it though!

Thanks all for the props!

It was some of the most fun I've ever had 4-wheeling.

I can't believe you would put all that work into making your bombproof front diff and then not even bother to put a skid plate under it though!

I understand, a skid would have kept me going when I hit the rock in that first run.  Even as simple as a Skid sounds, I didn't have the material on hand.  Their is a long list of stuff I'd have liked to have fabbed before the race, But after working grave yard shift all week and running on 2 - 3 hrs sleep for 4 days + needing to prep the tow rig pack and drive 5 hrs ...   I was out of time.  I would have fabbed the strut brace before the skid, though I agree the skid is VERY needed and on the short list.

Strut brace, Skid (bumper to trans), XJ bump stops, limit straps, better shocks, Turbo.
