HOT A/C !
« on: August 29, 2004, 09:59:32 AM »
Yesterday the A/C was fine, today, hot air :-/

Guess I'll be doing the R12 to R134 conversion earlier than I had planned.

Did ya check to see if the A/C clutch is still working?
Temp control set to cool?
Don't laugh, it happens.
Went wheeling yesterday, when we finished I wiped all the dust off my dash and such. On the drive home I couldn't figure why it was soo hot in the Tracker. Silly me, I bumped the temp and it was on high :o

Yeah, I just figured out that my A/C doesn't work too.  What could be the problem?

Make sure the bolts that hold the compressor to the bracket have not come loose. The belt will slip and the compressor will not run. In most applications, you will also loose your power steering.

Takes me about 15minutes to get my A/C to come on. Sometimes its faster to get the top off with 2 people... ;D

It started raining so I didn't go out there and check under the hood yet.  Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be something simple.

I did have all of the buttons/slide-controls where they needed to be, and my A/C usually throws cool air within 15 seconds, I waited 5 minutes and still hot air.

No power steering to lose, but I'll definitely check the bolts when I go out there this morning.  I had another car whose alternator bracket bolt would back out and twice it was sheared off at the block (PITB to get the remaining bolt out of the block >:( ) so I don't want that happening here.  Thanks.

Unless it's around 100*, A/C is usually open windows, but when the spouse is in the car, it's A/C all the way.

BTW, I gave a quick look this morning and the bracket & compressor were secure, belt was on, and no obvious hose damage.

When this monsoon stops, I'll check the inline fuse, but I noticed that the site glass was dark (instead of green, I believe).

What' this A/C you are talking about?  Do you mean taking the top off and driving faster?  ;D  My Galant has a setting where cool air comes out of the dash, but that's a car with all sorts of comfort bells and whistles.  I didn't think 4X4's came with such an option.  ;)

I gave mine to a friend.  It'll rob what HP you got.  ;D
Unless you have a K&N aircleaner and a NOS sticker to make up for it ;)

Find your high limit switch, usually near the firewall or heater core area and has 2 wires. with everything turned on like it should work take a paper clip or jumper wie and jumper between the 2 with the plug still attached and check to see if the compressor comes on, if it does you lost your R-12 somewhere. If it doesn't a fuse or wire is off somewhere like on the compressor itself would be a good place to start. Good Luck

Oh man, I love my A/C! Nothing's nicer than jumping out of the Zuk at the end of the trail cool and clean when everybody else is dusty and sweaty. But I am gettin' old and I need my creature comforts. :)

Yeah, what's with that? Everytime I put on the A/C, my car feels sluggish. I like it for long trips, but it is an actual noticable difference in performance when I turn it on! What a waste... So how do you go about "giving it to a friend?" I'd get rid of it in a flash to permanently free up that hp!
