96 Tracker passenger axle?
« on: February 20, 2009, 07:18:56 PM »
What holds it in? Im in the middle of lifting my rig, and had to pull the passenger front axle. When I put it back in, it just kinda slid in by hand with a little push. When I pulled it, it came out really easy too. Is this normal?

It's held in with a spring clip ring on the end of the shaft. Make sure it's on the replacement

I didnt even pull it all the way out of the axle tube, so I didnt see it. Im just putting a 2" coil spacer in, and slid it out enough to get the spring back in. Just wondering how easy they go back in? Mine seemed really easy to pop back in by hand.

There was a slight thunk as I pushed it the last 1/4 inch, but it was a light thunk? Do you usually have to hit them with a rubber hammer or anything, or is it really that easy?

Yes it's that eazy. Now taking it out should be much harder. In most cases you need to place a pry bar or large screw driver between the axle end & diff. to pop it out. If it pulls out eazy check the "C" clip on the axle end & poss. spread out the clip or get one slightly larger. After you install your new spring spacer the axle will want to pop out when front end drops out more so than the stock set-up. ( like hill climbs) Spending time now will save you a trail breakdown,

Ok, well I went back out, and yanked on it, and I cant pull it out by hand. When I removed it, I used a claw hammer, and it poped right out. Im assuming it is where its suposed to be, or I would be able to pull it out by hand?
